Sir Paul McCartney may have set a new world record after tickets for his one-off gig in Las Vegas sold out an astonishing seven seconds after going on sale.

And the economic crisis did not appear to deter fans wth one report saying a pair of prime seats were sold for $9,999.

Just 4,000 fans will get the chance to see the former Beatle perform at the opening of the New Joint at the Hardrock Hotel and Casino on April 19.

The Joint's remodelling, which is part of a $750 million expansion of the hotel & casino, will double the venue's size.

The Killers and Bon Jovi are among the artists who are due to play at the new venue in the legendary hotel next month.

According to promoters, tickets for McCartney's gig sold at a rate of almost six hundred a second - beating Take That's record for the fastest sell-out music tour.

In November last year all 600,000 tickets for the reformed boy band's Circus tour sold out in four-and-a-half hours.

The former Beatle's publicist Stuart Bell said: "Paul is thrilled with the news and is very much looking forward to performing in Las Vegas."

A spokeswoman for the Guinness Book of Records has said there is currently no category for the rate of sale of tickets for a single performance.

Wasn't there a Luke Perry movie called Seven Seconds? He was playing a rodeo bull rider.
