Lisa Marie Presley Discussion Thread

It’s very sweet to think of it from an MJ point of view but when you hear how much she suffered in recent years , I’d put Michael third in line to greet her…

It sounds like the death of her son was unbearable and probably put her in an early grave. Truly heartbreaking and even more so than losing Elvis.
I can't read the book just yet...judging from here, these reviews and comments ...it'll be a tough read.

Her PR team really trained her to drop 'as to my experience' every time MJ is mentioned. Bless her heart anyway!
I've just seen a short video clip of Priscilla at Riley's book signing. Not gonna post it but I feel quite sick. She hasn't said anything new but it feels in such poor taste for her to be saying this stuff at a PR event to promote the book. Don't know if Priscilla is responding to a question from an audience member but it still strikes me as something that could be better handled by the PR team. Not entirely sure why Priscilla is even there. She isn't needed, she isn't bringing anything new or interesting to the conversation.

I wish Riley's publisher had delayed the book until after Priscilla's book came out. 'Training' Riley to cope with the inevitable questions about Michael when she's doing all the tv interviews is meaningless if you're going to let Priscilla loose on one of your most high-profile PR events for the book.

I just feel 🤮

What do you mean? Pricilla is at a PR event to promote the book? She has nothing to do with the book If I followed it correctly, then she is portrayed very poorly in the book, mother of all.

Well, I don't have the full story. Video clips popped up online yesterday. Apparently she attended a book signing event for the LMP / Riley book. I avoided those clips. But today I inadvertently clicked on a different clip from the same event. It was quite short so I don't know if she was responding to a question from an audience member (comments online were calling it a book signing but she was up on a stage with Riley and (I think) Nicole Richie). So I'm not sure if it really was a book signing. It was a big event though.

Anyway, the clip I saw had Priscilla saying all the stuff she's already said a million times, trying to present as exciting new info or something. I'm not sure. But it was horrible. She said all the usual nonsense - 'Michael was a big Elvis fan, blah blah'. I cannot think what the PR team was thinking, allowing her to be present. I pay very little attention to Priscilla and yet I know the things she has said about Michael. I can't believe the PR team couldn't do a quick bit of online research before deciding whether to invite her or not. It's all out there, very easy to find.

And you are right, she has nothing to do with this book, imo, so why was she even there?

Just so p!ssed off.

I made the mistake of watching the Memphis event on YouTube and I felt like wretching - I have never known anything like it- that woman is absolutely the devil no shame and the audacity to a) claim not to have read book b) contradict her own daughters words that Michael and her were in love and no one has made her that happy ever since. C) gleefully claim she was happy when lisa divorced Michael and ‘got rid’ of husband number two d) outright claim she dislikes Michael Jackson .

What kind of undoing is this? I am now half irritated I bought that poxy book.

No wonder Michael ran I mean ran not walked out of that relationship and that family. Michael I’m sorry I ever doubted you … I totally get it now!!

I mean all this despicable behaviour in front of Michael’s own god daughter someone who was close to Michael and Jackson family!

oh, that's right, it was the Graceland thing. I'd forgotten that.

and I felt like wretching
Same. I still feel sick now.

This was the worst part. This was in the clip I watched. My head just about exploded. Just the way she said it.

d) outright claim she dislikes Michael Jackson .

I feel the same. Yes, Lisa Marie is funny and sassy as she always was and that's great, the way it comes through in the book. But it's a tough read, imo. And, yes, I now kinda wish I hadn't bothered.

I mean all this despicable behaviour in front of Michael’s own god daughter someone who was close to Michael and Jackson family!
It was all just so awkward and weird. wth?

She's a nasty piece of work, spent years living off her X husband's name, I once read Elvis had one true love and it wasn't her. I think some things should have been excluded, I've not read it only the bits that's been made public, Did Lisa Marie really want the world to know her most sacred moments I'm not so sure.

I have very different ideas about this book now that I've read (most of) it. Initially it seemed like a good idea, get Riley to fill in the gaps, use her own memories to add to her Mum's thoughts. I just recently learned (from an interview with Riley) that LMP asked Riley to help her with the book in December 2022 and, of course, LMP died in January 2023. In other words, the notes Lisa Marie had dictated up to that point were fairly basic recollections, not anywhere near fleshed out, polished, structured, detailed. So Riley wasn't just tidying up a few loose ends which I think is what I first assumed. Having read the book I'm not convinced it was anywhere near ready to be published. Obviously, it's beyond sad that Lisa Marie died so young but it's also frustrating. If she had lived, if she could have been partnered with a good ghostwriter maybe the book would have worked better. It's not a disaster but I have many, many reservations about it.

This is such a good question. It's true that Lisa was struggling to know how to write about her life and how to structure it and she did ask Riley for help and I'm not criticising LMP at all (or Riley, actually). The notes they've used as the basis for the book ... we'll never know how much of that LMP herself would have included in a final version, had she lived. If she had been able to work with a good ghostwriter maybe certain things would have been edited out. It's different when it's songs and song lyrics. They work in a different way.

I'm very conflicted about the whole thing. :(

I know I'm just not a fan of priscilla, I hate that she said michael only wanted to be connected to the presley name that's why I think she's nasty.

Yeah, I saw it too, and I don't think that woman has even read the book. But most of all, she's making a fool out of herself. I'm not even sure if this was planned. She seemed to have hijacked the interview.

I've seen a few comments saying she did say at the event that she hasn't read it! At an actual event promoting the book you have someone sitting there saying they haven't read it? Way to go! Who organised this thing and who on earth invited Priscilla?

But most of all, she's making a fool out of herself.
I only saw a really short clip but, yeah, it was actually embarrassing.

I'm not even sure if this was planned.
That would actually make sense. She came across as a loose cannon, firing shots at Michael all over the place.

She seemed to have hijacked the interview.
She really did. I only watched a fragment but she just kind of took over with all that hatred of Michael spewing out. It was horrendous but also just freakin' weird.

What she's saying in the interview completely contradicts what's in the book. She's being vicious, but it's clear she's not very intelligent. I don't think we'll see much more of her on the book tour—it’s not a good look (not only in regards to MJ fans).

Exactly so!

She's being vicious, but it's clear she's not very intelligent.
I never pay much attention to her - although I know the things she has said about Michael, of course - but, yeah, she's not exactly using her brain here. I get that she didn't like Michael but it's like she's lost her mind or something. Spitting venom about him almost 30 years after the divorce? Just so weird.

I don't think we'll see much more of her on the book tour
If Pan MacMillan invited her I hope they are rapidly rearranging the rest of the promotion. Bc she is NOT an asset.

It's a car crash.

This is now my observation too — this has become apparent with the omissions around Scientology and how Lisa renounced it in 2014 with a major bust up with the head of Church of $$$cientology but it wasn’t even touched upon as Riley is very much still in it ( along with Priscilla perhaps)…. Stories around Danny keough are also blatantly grandiosed by Riley as he is her father - I get it but I get this whole fill in the blanks didn’t quite work with the fluidity of book - it was not quite ready to be published - aside from bring a rather short book ( it didn’t lack in shock factor and poignancy though I cried and laughed in equal measure)

Priscilla is definitely still in it, probably why she hates michael, he would never have gotten into that, much to her annoyance

I did see an article online from the Scientology lot putting forward their version of parts of the story in the book. I didn't have the time or energy to try to verify anything they said but it was an interesting piece.

but it wasn’t even touched upon as Riley is very much still in it
oh, I didn't know that.

( along with Priscilla perhaps)
I hadn't considered that. It makes sense, I suppose.

I get that he and Lisa Marie had a pretty strong connection but, yeah, I thought that was one potentially weak aspect of the book.

- I get it but I get this whole fill in the blanks didn’t quite work with the fluidity of book - it was not quite ready to be published - aside from bring a rather short book
It was originally meant to be a bit longer. 300+ pages, iirc, and then it got cut down. Even the original page allowance wasn't massive for such a complicated life story plus it's a memoir and they tend to be on the short side but, yeah, it's too short and therefore feels a bit uneven to me.

( it didn’t lack in shock factor
I don't know how she survived her life!

and poignancy though I cried and laughed in equal measure)
It is terribly poignant.

Omg what happened?? I need to go back and read the last pages here ...
There was an event which I can't give feedback on bc I didn't watch it, I only caught a fragment. It was at Graceland, afaik it was billed as a book signing event although the bit I saw looked very different to a normal book signing. Riley, Nicole Richie and Priscilla were on a stage. The clip I watched is where Priscilla is talking about Michael. It was a very short clip so I don't know if she was speaking in response to a question from the audience - in which case I would say the Pan MacMillan PR team needs to control these things a bit better.

Anyway, she said the same stuff she always says - MJ was a big Elvis fan, 'I KNOW he was' she states with absolute confidence and no credibility whatsoever. The bit about him not being at home for four days and LMP didn't know where he was. LMP already dealt with this in an interview and, besides, it's almost 30 years since the divorce happened. Why is Priscilla still fixated on Michael? Her reaction when she mentions the divorce was frankly ... oh, sod it, I can't even finish the sentence.

Point is, she's no kind of an asset if you are trying to promote a book. Oh yeah, this wasn't in the clip I watched but apparently she also said she hasn't read the book. Tbf to Priscilla maybe she's been advised not to read it. Lisa Marie is pretty harsh on her Mum so perhaps it's best if Priscilla doesn't go there. But, in the context of a PR event for the book, it's weird.

I watched this a few days ago and it still p!sses me off. I probably should go and mop the kitchen floor, do some normal stuff, distract myself. I sound obsessed, just like Priscilla!

I really need to let this go, lol. :ROFLMAO:

I've only caught a handful of Riley's interviews about the book and they've mostly been very predictable, imo. This one is much better, I think.
