Lisa Marie Presley Discussion Thread

I am currently reading LMP's daughter's book. I haven't reached the MJ parts but I can see why she had an attraction to him, so many of the things her father did were very similar to what MJ did, so in a way being with him was live having her dad again in her life.

but why did lisa call mike a " snake
No offence but I think you're getting too fixated on this. When Lisa Marie mentions this she doesn't go into detail or give any real context. It's during a phone call but she doesn't describe exactly what they are talking about. Have they recently been arguing? He's working so when was the last time they saw each other? On that page she's talking about her reluctance to have kids with Michael but we don't know if the phone conversation has anything to do with that, probably not imo.

Relationships are complicated and people say all kinds of sh!t to each other and the people who are outside that relationship just won't understand. However much she loved him she's going to have moments when she's exasperated with him or impatient or whatever - and vice versa! Yes, she recorded that and, yes, Riley has chosen to include it in the book but I don't think it's the most important thing she says. She does say, "I was actually so happy. I've never been that happy again" about marrying Michael. She said many angry things about him after they divorced but later on she retracted those comments and then spent hours sitting with his coffin after he died.

When she called him a snake did she say it in a nasty tone of voice or did she say it in a jokey way? We'll never know. Personally, I'm not taking it in a negative way. It could mean anything but we'll never know.

Heard the whole book and despite the darkness of it I really recommend it.
A little off topic but at the very end Julia Roberts says hope you enjoyed the audio book, published by,copyright and so on but I wouldnt use the «enjoyed» word as its a very sad listening experience.

Trust the media to pick up on MJ being a virgin at 35 apparently 🙄

They love to make a mockery out of him
That's what MJ told her yet there was also a part where the book states:

"I was terrified, because I didn’t want to make the wrong move. When he decided to first kiss me, he just did it. He was instigating everything. The physical stuff started happening, which I was shocked at. I had thought that maybe we wouldn’t do anything until we got married, but he said, “I’m not waiting!”

MJ was no virgin, that was part of his image and how people viewed him. I do believe that she really did like him a lot though, too bad they couldn't have made it work, both had to have issues resolved and for the most part, neither seemed to have gotten over those hurdles.

It was a phone call he made home to speak to her and she said to him ‘you’re like a snake - I don’t know when you will emerge from under something’ - Michael then said ‘great! I call him and you call me a snake’ - it must have been when things were frought betweeen them. I doubt it was a laughing matter but there were no further elaborations on that aside from LMP s sort of thing about Michael being manipulative and not forthcoming etc etc which we heard as a running theme from the presleys since they divorced so nothing new there.

Having read the book I can completely appreciate all these highly strung, impatient qualities Lisa possessed growing up the way she did - so when she came in like a hurricane into the New York hospital then pretty much straight away produced divorce papers - it’s just such a shame - perhaps Michael wasn’t able to talk freely with his guard down in an intensive care hospital bed - if he did have a dependency issue then - he might have managed to open upto her later on when he was discharged back home- the level of ‘impatience’ and ‘haste’ from both of them is very sad - I feel they might have had a shot at everlasting love had they both had a little calmness and patience about them.

Enjoyed? Strange choice of vocabulary. I think the book is interesting, startling and profoundly depressing but I definitely didn't 'enjoy' reading it.

Actors are weird.

Julia Roberts obviously read from a script….maybe it was even edited in later on.
I though it was rather poor chooise of word.

I have listened to the audiobook and finished yesterday.
It’s seriously weird and haunting to hear Lisa Marie’s voice.
The whole chapter about Michael is very sad and frustrating at the same time.
I feel Lisa Marie never got over her Fathers death and this coloured everything in her life including her attitude towards Michael and his addictions.

Came in like a hurricane, that's what she did - I saw it.

Julia Roberts obviously read from a script [...]
I'm sure she did. But she's an extremely successful A-list actor with years of experience under her belt. She's not a newbie, terrified to challenge the director. She absolutely could speak up and query the inclusion of that word. They didn't need to make a massive change. I'm not having a go at her, I'm just saying it seems odd to me that she didn't say anything. She would have read the entire book before she started to record it.

It's just odd, that's all.

I though it was rather poor chooise of word.
It is. I have no plans to listen to the audio book but, if I did, I know I would find that very jarring.

I can understand you ... just reading and hearing these excerpts posted online has given me a heartache these last days. Nothing big and new has been revealed ... but still, I feel pretty miserable. Their love, their deaths ...
Michael has been on my mind a lot, and it hurts.

Yes there is a lot of sorrow and heartache, but also some really funny stories. I must say LMP has a great sense of humor.

They are reunited now that's all that matters
oh that is beautiful...🩶
It’s very sweet to think of it from an MJ point of view but when you hear how much she suffered in recent years , I’d put Michael third in line to greet her…

It sounds like the death of her son was unbearable and probably put her in an early grave. Truly heartbreaking and even more so than losing Elvis.

Agreed. It would be her son. Even her Dad would have to settle for being second in line, I reckon.
