Rolling Stone also did an 11-page article on Lauryn and her 1999 album last month:

Inside “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”: An Oral History

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was released 10 years ago this week and went on to sell more than 8 million copies, win five Grammys and earn a four-star review in Rolling Stone. Mary J. Blige hailed it as “one of the most incredible albums ever made” and the record influenced a generation of soul and hip-hop artists.

Miseducation’s liner notes mostly credit Hill with producing, writing and arranging the entire album. It was, in fact, a huge group effort (as underlined by a lawsuit settled out of court in 2001 for a reported $5 million).

To celebrate the album, Rolling Stone spoke with many of those responsible for making it: a then-little known pianist named John Legend, D’Angelo, engineer Commissioner Gordon, backup singers, New-Ark producers, Hill’s longtime companion Rohan Marley and her Fugee bandmate Pras Michel.

imo the greatest female artist/performer/mc/lyricist of modern times. contributed something great and never heard from again.. saw her live a couple of times in recent years and was blown away but unfortunately i don't think we'll be hearing any new material soon but she still left quite a lot to be explored and enjoyed.

especially her stint in Sister Act 2 ^_^ that was awesome! :)

Re: Lauryn Hill

It's like you read my mind. I thought of a thread like this not long ago. And I agree with everything written above. She is a musical, instrumental, song-writing genius, she leaves me speechless, actually. And the way she plays guitar and the lyrics of her songs are outstanding proofs for that. She is a true inspiration.

Here are some of her best performances or songs recorded, in my opinion:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=cAuRTS9ShDg - I Just Want You Around

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ofe6sc6_CpI&feature=related - I Find It Hard To Say

http://youtube.com/watch?v=EyOhUXsGqak&feature=related - I Gotta Find Peace Of Mind - this wonder of a song actually inspired me to write about 2 or 3 poems.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ktgHNJ4RmIY&feature=related - Zion

http://youtube.com/watch?v=X7Hv0Mrzxwc&feature=related - Turn Your Lights Down Low

http://youtube.com/watch?v=SLJkOCLzuhc&feature=related - Ex Factor

http://youtube.com/watch?v=SF_KWhlxKyo - Water - the lyrics of this song are just otherwordly...

And I also liked her work with the Fugees. Including her new (solo) song, "Lose Myself":

A fierce genius.........

Re: Lauryn Hill

many were concerned for her mental state after seeing her change of direction in those Unplugged performances you posted but so many of those tunes were pure strokes of genius. Just Like Water is otherworldly..

about her latest song - i don't know what the deal was with that (maybe just for soundtrack) but i never really got into it.. i'm hoping she's working on a new album though.. boy is she needed..

Re: Lauryn Hill

love to see lauryn do a duet with mj. such a waste that there was no real follow up to the miseducation.

Re: Lauryn Hill

shes great!I love her voice.so awesome that she can rap and actually sing! Can't take my eyes off of you is my fave :D

Re: Lauryn Hill

I love Lauryn! Loved her ever since she was in the Fugees. I always thought she was really talented, smart, down to earth, beautiful, etc. but "The Miseducation" is one of my fave albums ever. I really hope that Lauryn can work out all her personal issues and eventually make a comeback. I would just hate to see a great talent like that go to waste.

Yep..

I really hope she is well and happy these days, though...It's like, whatever she says in her songs, I feel and she seems so logical about everything. Every lyric of hers says something, every one of them.

^ Thank you! Is that a leaked track or it's legal?

Oh my! The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is already 10 years old?!? :bugeyed
Just 2 days ago I've seen for the 9999 time 'Sister Act 2' on tv :D
I hope Lauryn will release a new album soon.

heh na neither a 'leak' nor legal; it just came out of no where yesterday - sources say it's no new material, probably from old Miseducation sessions or preachy-conspiracy-theory-Lauryn period.

anyway, the masses are still showing their love and waiting on some new material, hopefully that'll lift her up to give us some.
