Katy Perry achieved massive success on the Billboard Hot 100 during the last year but she has often been criticised regarding her relatively slow album sales. However, the Pop superstar has truly gotten the last laugh as her ‘Teenage Dream’ LP has finally been certified double platinum in the US.

Released on August 24th 2010, ‘Teenage Dream’ has thus far amassed retail sales exceeding 1.83 million copies in the US and has thus far remained on the Billboard 200 for 60 weeks since it debuted at #1 on the tally with 192K units sold. Furthermore, the LP spawned a record-breaking 5 #1 singles on the Hot 100 and earned Katy the title of being the only female artist to achieve that feat as she matched Michael Jackson’s similar historic accomplishment with his ‘Bad’ album in 1988.

Despite encountering severe criticism from songwriter Linda Perry, who blamed Katy for the downfall of the music industry, ‘Teenage Dream’ was nominated at the 2011 Grammy Awards ceremony for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Katy has also been nominated for 3 American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year, and she is scheduled to perform at the event which will air live on November 20th at 8pm ET via ABC.
