just based on Funk who are your all time starting top 5 Funk Acts and why?

for Me James Brown, Rick James, George Clinton, Sly and the Family STone,Earth, wind and Fire

old school:

P-Funk (especially Bernie Worrell), Chuck Brown, James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, and The Meters.

early fusions:

Crusaders, EW&F, RAH Band, Prince, and The Headhunters.

new school:

Brand New Heavies, Liquid Spirits, Incognito, Dam.Funk, and Jamiroquai.

5. Curtis Mayfield
4. Zapp & Roger Troutman
3. The Isley Bros.
2. Stevie Wonder
1. James Brown

James Brown first and foremost because on top of the immensity of his songs, he was also the first true funk artists, at least as far as I know.

Stevie goes without saying for my tastes. Songs like "Do Yourself a Favor", "Jesus Children of America" and "Maybe Your Baby" are just killer, killer funk tracks, and he also fused some of the funkiness into songs like "Tuesday Heartbreak".

Isley's have some amazing funk tracks. I love the mellow funk of "Showdown" and the deep funk of "Fight The Power".

Roger Troutman goes without saying as well.

Curtis Mayfield also had the mellow funk and the funky-funk down pat. Even on hits like "Let's Do It Again" you can't escape the funk, just listen to the guitar riffs at the beginning.

^^ I love it when Stevie, Curtis and the Isleys showcased their FUNK, so did Rick James (almost throughout his career, of course he was one of its kings) and Marvin later in his career (though I call his "3 a.m. funk" especially his late 1970s records).

1. Stevie Wonder
2. Jamiroquai
3. Average White Band
4. Zapp & Roger
5. Kool & The Gang

Mixed versions of funk in my list. Difficult to compile a top 5, let alone in order! I just love and appreciate many different styles and eras of Funk. It is certainly missed in contemporary music where it is raped by alot of new acts.

1)Parliament
2)James Brown
3)Sly & The Family Stone
4)Kool & The Gang
5)Prince

Bernie's the greatest funkster to have ever laid fingers on a synth, whether it's the Moog with P-Funk or the ARP like he laid down on the Talking Heads sessions. versatile creative genius.

I miss troubleman and arXter :(:(
Troubleman posts at "prince.org". I went there about 3 months ago. It seemed he did a lot more activity there than here. I know he has a Youtube channel. I don't know about arXter. ArXter's Youtube hasn't been logged on in awhile.
