LC Series For Schaufuss Ballet's "Michael - I'm Bad"
HOLSTEBRO, DENMARK--The Peter Schaufuss Ballet's latest production, "Michael - I'm Bad," is a dance biography set to the original music of Michael Jackson that highlights the notable moments in the singer's life. Lighting and video designer Bo Kudsk Kristensen had the opportunity to incorporate a video element into the show and chose as the canopy a back wall of Martin LC Series LED panels.
Bo, technical manager and chief of lighting at Schaufuss who has handled lighting design for the Ballet since 2005, traditionally had a large conventional lighting rig at his disposal. But in 2007 he added a Martin automated lighting package consisting of MAC 2000 Performance and MAC 2000 Wash fixtures. He welcomed the opportunity to couple the LC Series panels with the moving heads and looked forward to the challenge of "getting to know the new dimension of video" he says.
"For 'Bad' we were looking for more of a living set and thought about projectors," Bo explains, "but then Martin came out with these great LED panels, which are very bright and easy to work with. The LC panels are very light weight which makes them easy to rig, but if that's not possible in the small theatres that we play in, they can stand on the floor," Bo says.

Ne-Yo Says Ex Inspires His Songs, Plus Michael Jackson Approves of New Song
Ne-Yo is turning out to be quite a Gentleman this year, the R&B singer/songwriter is busy gearing up for the release of his new album Year of the Gentleman, but says his ex inspires a lot of his music.
According to a recent interview with MTV News, the singer says “She knows she's responsible. Her man knows, her daughter knows, and they're flattered. She makes for great song lyrics, but she better not ask for 10 percent!” of his ex and mother of his child when asked about his next potential single “Stop The World.”
Ne-Yo’s ex also inspired two previous hits including his breakout single “So Sick” and the more recent “Do You.”
“Stop the World” is a piano based ballad that the “Closer” singer says is about falling in love so hard that you believe those feelings could literally stop the world from spinning. "That happens to me a lot," he said. "I'm a bleeding heart, ladies and gentleman. But the first time it happened for me was when I was 16 years old."
In related news, the singer recently revealed a tribute to Michael Jackson on his latest album entitled “Nobody.” According to MTV, when the star played the track for Jackson, with whom he's currently working, he got a positive response. "He told me that he likes the way I do Michael Jackson," Ne-Yo beamed. "I asked him what he meant by that, and he said, 'When you do that, it doesn't feel like you're trying to copy me or trying to be me. It feels like you're complimenting me.' And that's what I'm doing. It means the world that he liked it."
Ne-Yo’s third studio album entitled “Year of the Gentleman” is due in stores August 5th !

Duo share the thrill of award
A CLEETHORPES fish factory worker's magnum opus has also spelled glory for a Swindon duo.
Rod Temperton was the unlikely genius behind Michael Jackson's seminal hit Thriller in the mid 1980s.
Now Neil Cowling and Jed Pitman, of Swindon-based company Fresh Air Productions, have won two American radio awards for their documentary about Rod.

And last week the pair headed to New "Oscar."
Their documentary, aired last December on Radio 2, Thriller: Michael Jackson's Masterpiece won the gold medal in the best music special category of The New York Festivals Radio Broadcasting Awards.
Neil Cowling, One half of the producing duo, said: "When people think of Thriller they don't tend to think of a Yorkshireman who used to work in a fish factory.
"It took us four years to persuade Rod to talk to us then we ended up making our first documentary about him.
"Then last December was the 25th anniversary of Thriller so we decided to do a documentary on that."
What worried Cowling and Pitman though was how they felt music fans have forgotten Jackson's talent due to his much-publicised private troubles.
Neil said: "It was important to us to make people remember why he was such a big star because of his music.
"Thriller was an influential album; Bad was a good album but anything after Bad wasterrible.
"We wanted people to remember Thriller and say wow, I've just remembered why I like Michael Jackson."
Listeners of Radio 2 were not the only people to be dazzled by the documentary.
It also struck a chord with the festival judges who also awarded the Devizes Road-based duo the silver medal in the competition's arts and culture category.
"We were very pleased to win the awards," said Neil.
"We spent three days celebrating. But it was important to us that people remember Thriller."
"It came out when MTV was starting out and they needed a star who understood the importance of music videos.
"You can pretty much trace the success of MTV to Thriller.
"So without Thriller we'd have no MTV and without MTV we may not have the artists we have today."

The band, known for its pre-World War II blues, fiddle tunes and American jug music, often is lumped into country or bluegrass genres. Watson admits, though, that most of the band didn't know what bluegrass was before they got together. The 28-year-old grew up listening to Nirvana and Michael Jackson.

How personally involved were you in choosing and negotiating?
I have a good staff and the board of directors is involved; they're guaranteeing the financial commitment on behalf of the club. In terms of choosing acts we're guided by the professionals and they said Westlife and Meat Loaf were poles apart as far as audiences go, which is an advantage. Each time we get involved Plymouth becomes an accepted venue and – who knows? – we might be able to get a (Paul) McCartney or a Michael Jackson in the future.

The Wiz” was more cultural phenomenon than artistic success when it opened on Broadway in 1975. With a book written by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, the musical was part of a wave of shows created in the 1970s with all-black casts for the express purpose of cultivating a black audience on Broadway. Despite uniformly negative reviews, a weak book, and largely unexceptional score, “The Wiz” bagged seven Tonys that year, including best musical. It was made into a film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson in 1978.

On Tuesday night, they playfully put all the duds up front with the background music of Michael Jackson's "Beat It," which was as entertaining as watching "America's Funniest Videos." But this show is about talent and some finally came through, like two tumblers from New Orleans, La., who dedicated their performance to their uncle who was wheelchair-bound and perished in Hurricane Katrina. And then there was Eli Mattson whose phenomenal voice didn't so much as crack while singing and playing the piano. The entire audience, which up until this point was standing on their chairs "booing" people off, were relieved to give a standing ovation

Style of music you spin: I love to spin a mix of electro, rock, mashups, 80’s and some hip hop. Realizing his foreseen talent at the age of 12 where he took part in a talent show in school, he virtually performed a stargazed dance routine to Michael Jackson, Billie Jean, and after receiving a standing ovation, he found it extremely comfortable in the spotlight and decided that, he wanted to perform as a gateway of expression for the rest of his life.

Most people associate disco with ‘Stayin' Alive’ which is absolutely not what disco is all about. As far as influences are concerned, I’ve also been really inspired by people who can make a show by themselves.” Vu replied. “I don’t like performing by myself, but I really respect the people who can. But to be honest, Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall”, and Chaz Jankel have been two of my biggest influences.”
