Michael Jackson's brother, Jermaine, slipped unannounced into South Africa and was spotted in Soweto.

Jermaine Jackson, the fourth child of Joseph and Katherine Jackson, and elder brother of Michael and Janet, took a guided tour of Soweto, visiting Freedom Square and Mandela House, on Vilakazi Street, before having lunch at Sakhumzi restaurant.

The restaurateur and tour operators said Jackson - one of the Jackson 5 - was accompanied by his Afghan-born second wife, Halima Rashid.

The manager of Mandela House, Ishmael Mbhokodo, told The Timesit was a huge surprise to see the star, who sang at his brother's televised memorial service. He had no idea Jackson was coming to town.

"Mr Jackson didn't really say why he was visiting South Africa but he did mention that he was touring all the historical monuments of the township," Mbhokodo said.

"He told us he was coming from Freedom Square, in Kliptown, and was planning to go up the road to see the Hector Pieterson memorial.

"He arrived with an entourage of people, they posed for pictures with Nelson Mandela's family pictures, and he was impressed by the awards Mandela had received from the US."

After leaving the Mandela house, Jackson walked across the road to the Sakhumzi restaurant.

Sakhumzi's general manager, Benjamin Mamatela, said Jackson said he wasn't very hungry, but his wife tucked into the buffet of African cuisine.

"Mr Jackson said he just wanted a Coke, but his wife helped herself to the lunch of lamb stew, chicken, Greek salad and rice. He told us that she wanted something with no pork, so that was what she ate from the buffet."

Mamatela said it was amazing how much Jackson's speaking voice sounded like his late brother's.

The manager had pictures taken with the singer.

It is not known when Jackson arrived in the country and when he is scheduled to leave.

JERMAINE Jackson left South Africa yesterday after a two-day whirlwind visit.

Accompanied by his wife Halima Rashid, Jermaine, the brother of late legendary pop icon Michael Jackson, had a quiet dinner with friends – musicians Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse and Yvonne Chaka Chaka – after a hectic day touring Soweto.

They visited the old Mandela house in Vilakazi Street and Hector Pieterson Square before sampling the local cuisine at Sakhumzi Restaurant – all in Orlando West.

Before tucking into the inviting dinner at Barrington’s Restaurant at the Killarney Mall in Johannesburg, Jackson spent some time motivating boys from Bethsida House in Berea.

Sitting next to the man whose family is known all over the world for their music talents, I found him soft-spoken like his late brother. The only relic from the past was his famous hairstyle.

“In order to honour our brother’s memory and legacy, we have decided to go all over the world to start charities that will encourage young men to improve their lives.

“We encourage them to find their dreams, work on them and never give up. We tell them that we come from humble beginnings. We grew up in a two-bedroom house but it was full of love, respect and values that shaped us,” he said.

Jackson encouraged families to spend as much time as possible with each other because that way it’s easier to instil values.

“Children who grow up like that always have the ability to look after themselves.”

He said the family was still mourning Michael’s death.

“The world lost one of the greatest talents and I lost my kid brother. He was not that sick. It was these conspiracies against successful black men. He loved children so much and in the end they accused him of performing all those atrocious acts on them.”

Jackson said it was so sad that one of the boys came forward to confess that he had been coerced to lie only after his brother’s death.

The Jacksons left for Gambia, then Dubai and other countries, where similar programmes will be run.

I am assuming he is referring to the tour Janet will front.

The show doesn't air in Africa nor in Dubai, why would he be promoting it there? Why not the UK? Since they've been airing it just recently there?
Some of the brother were promoting it in the UK i think and jermaine was promoting it in australia so maybe he just took a detour or he has some other business plans maybe, it's jermaine so who knows lol.
