Janet sold out Essence show in minutes!

Janet Jackson proved to be a box-office draw in Tyler Perry's 'Why Did I Get Married Too?" earlier this year. Now the "Make Me" singer is responsible for setting records for Essence magazine's forthcoming Essence Music Festival.

According to published reports, Jackson, who as previously reported headlines one of three concerts in New Orleans in July, sold out a show in not days or hours but minutes.

Excited about the forthcoming show, which takes place during fourth of July weekend, Jackson told fans that she's also happy to be covering Essence this summer.

"It was a pleasure shooting my upcoming cover with Essence Magazine today," Jackson told fans Thursday. "I hope u will enjoy the issue."

I'm not sure how Janet's Broadway like show fits in with the rest of the acts that usually are a part of the Essence festival like old R&B singers/groups or funk bands.
 
It won't fit in at all.. Besides Janet can't sing and singing live is not her strong suit.

Oh come on, I think that's a bit over the top to say she can't sing. Granted she doesn't have a particularly strong voice but she can hold a tune.

I don't know about all that. I just think her extravgant routines, many costume changes, and S&M stuff won't fly with Neville Brothers fans, lol.
 
Sold out! That's pretty impressive.

The Essence Festival is always such a diverse celebration of music. Mary J and Alicia will be there on the other nights, so it should be awesome.
 
To be honest Janet has always been dope, but I'd rather go in the first place to watch Alicia and Mary J sing live not lip sync in some weird Genie pants

Janet's sung live a lot more than Mike ever did.

I've seen Janet twice in concert and she rivals Mike for one of the best live shows I've seen.

Yea sure she sung live before but she aint singing live at that show or the previous 10-20 shows she done before that

I dont think she sung live more than Mike, Mike did stop singing live during the dangerous era in 92 but the 15 years before that were all live i think, i dont think Janet has even spent 10 years singing live

These fights happen in the forum because ridiculous and pathetics comparisons like that.

Michael Jackson was singing live at concerts almost daily, while Janet was in diapers.

Janet is the headliner. So she gets a 2 hour set. The others perform in lounges. I know Monica is the opener for Janet.

As for people saying Janet doesn't sing live, have you see the choreography she does ?? Michael never sung live when he has a lot of Choreography, stop nit picking !! she still sings her slower songs like Again live, and also the person who said she hasn't sung live in her last 10-20 performances, wasn't the AMA performance live...

I thinking TvOne will cover it, because they covered the last one.

And yes, Janet does sing live. Her ballads are always live, and she ad libs and sings over a backing track when she's dancing full out. AS DO ALL ARTISTS LIKE JANET, BEYONCE, AND MICHAEL.

Wasn't intentionally comparing them, just defending Janet's supposed lip-syncing in concert.

Apologies but the compaison was just and it's replies calling it 'pathetic' and 'ridiculous' that cause the arguments.

What causes arguments is the inability to defend Janet without making ridiculous and pathetic comparisons with someone ten billion times better.

There was no need to compare Janet with Michael. Anyone would know it would cause problems here.

Well, at least you've recognised your mood correctly!

And, it is okay to live other artists as well as Mike, I only compared them. I prefer Mike by a million percent but having seen them both live more than once my opinion is that they are comparable.

'Tis all.

But enough arguments recently.

Do you or anyone else here know if she will go on a tour in Europe? I remember hearing something about that she were preparing for a tour. But if she is starting that new movie in june, then I guess she wont be out! Id really wanna see her perform.

I heard this too, I hope she does, I would LOVE to see her in Manchester, UK or somewhere close to me, she never comes here, always London... then again if I ask my parents in advance, they might let me... they let me get tickets for TII

Janet will be opening the festival, but to say the OTHERS are performing in lounges is not true.

"Also appearing on the MAIN STAGE will be Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Earth, Wind & Fire, Keri Hilson, Gladys Knight, LL Cool J, Trey Songz, Jill Scott and Monica."

Performing in the lounges will be folks like: Mary Mary, Estelle, Mint Condition, Joe and a bunch of others.

You didn't REALLY think that top acts like Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys would be performing in a lounge, did you? LOL!

I'd rather see Alicia, LL Cool and Mary J Blige. They all perform live.. I've seen Mary J 3 times and I don't think she lipsynced at all.. Alicia is totally live and so is LL.
