After years of yo-yo dieting, Janet Jackson is hoping to finally get her weight back in check.
Following in the footsteps of recently slimmed-down divas Jennifer Hudson for Weight Watchers and, most recently, Mariah Carey for Jenny Craig, the 45-year-old pop superstar has announced that she is the new face of Nutrisystem‘s “Get On It” program.
“It’s a matter of learning how to keep it off, that maintenance, and they have a program for that,” Janet said during an interview on Good Morning America whiledressed in a sleek white suit. “My success plan is to be healthy and feel good about me.”
By following the Nutrisystem plan, Janet claims that she has already lost ten pounds. “I am so impressed by both the thought and the nutritional science behind the program,” said Janet. “There are millions of women like me who want to be successful but don’t have the tools to do it on their own. I hope I can help inspire them.”
In her book True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yours, Janet delves deeper into her childhood and how it affected her body image. The “Control” singer revealed that big brother Michael Jackson would tease her about her “butt being too big.” Even worse, during her first season on the comedy Good Times in the 1970s, not only were her breasts binded for being too large, but by the age of 11 the actress was asked to lose weight by the wardrobe department.
Regaled as one of the sexiest women alive, Janet admits that she has always struggled with weight issues and her poor self esteem when it came to her figure. “It stemmed from when I was a kid, being a baby of the family, you know, you get teased,” she said. “They were just names of endearment, but I carried that through my adult life.”
