After years of yo-yo dieting, Janet Jackson is hoping to finally get her weight back in check.
Following in the footsteps of recently slimmed-down divas Jennifer Hudson for Weight Watchers and, most recently, Mariah Carey for Jenny Craig, the 45-year-old pop superstar has announced that she is the new face of Nutrisystem‘s “Get On It” program.
“It’s a matter of learning how to keep it off, that maintenance, and they have a program for that,” Janet said during an interview on Good Morning America whiledressed in a sleek white suit. “My success plan is to be healthy and feel good about me.”
By following the Nutrisystem plan, Janet claims that she has already lost ten pounds. “I am so impressed by both the thought and the nutritional science behind the program,” said Janet. “There are millions of women like me who want to be successful but don’t have the tools to do it on their own. I hope I can help inspire them.”

In her book True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yours, Janet delves deeper into her childhood and how it affected her body image. The “Control” singer revealed that big brother Michael Jackson would tease her about her “butt being too big.” Even worse, during her first season on the comedy Good Times in the 1970s, not only were her breasts binded for being too large, but by the age of 11 the actress was asked to lose weight by the wardrobe department.
Regaled as one of the sexiest women alive, Janet admits that she has always struggled with weight issues and her poor self esteem when it came to her figure. “It stemmed from when I was a kid, being a baby of the family, you know, you get teased,” she said. “They were just names of endearment, but I carried that through my adult life.”
Watch the diva talk about the ups and downs of her famous life on Good Morning America and “Get On It” in the official Nutrisystem commercial below. Who is your favorite diva weight loss spokesperson: Janet, Mariah, or Jennifer?

They have been playing her Nutrisystem commercials a lot. I tried it a few years ago. I hated having to rely on the office microwave and I would eat all the good meals and snacks first and save the horrible ones (like the black bean soup :puke:) for the end of the month. And I only lost 6 pounds, grrr. Maybe it has improved since 2007.

These products are useless, they are just taking money away from people who are desperate to lose weight quickly and easily.

The secret to losing weight is to close the mouth, eating healthy, let laziness aside, and doing very, very, very gymnastics... any physical activity. There is no other way out. There is another way to maintain weight. -_- :fear:

Ash I agree with you. Every time I lose weight is when I keep my mouth closed once my stomach is full. To me portions are the key. Even Weight watchers make you measure your intake.

Although a big problem is that American farmers put growth hormones in the animal feed and even the plants have been changed to make them grow faster, and these affect humans. No wonder so many Americans are over weight.

Great girl! :wild: Here in Brazil the nutritionists say: 6 meals a day and small portions. So.... you eat several times during day, but in small quantities. But any physical activity is very important and helps you lose weight faster. You must have discipline.

I know... :( This is so bad. The Brazilian press talked about it much. So I eat only organic foods is the best output. Sure!

The following NYT article gives insightful information on weight issue.

For too long, people perceive weight problem as a physiological problem, rather than a biological problem. Many people eat healthy and exercise; yet, they still struggle with maintaining healthy weight. The villain may not always be lack of determination, but the way their hormones work in their bodies.

When people try to lose weight, their bodies do not burn calories as efficiently. To make matter worse, they have increase food craving. That's why losing weight is such a frustrating process.

I hope people who want to lose weight read the above article first. Then, they may realize all those weight loss programs only provide temporary solution.

These type of plans do work for a lot of people though, but you can't just rely on eating the food. You have to willing to put in the work for it to work, a healthy diet along with a good amount of exercise is crucial to lose weight.

I like the advert, but I don't think Nutrisystem is available in the UK so I don't think I'll see it here, nor do I think I could rely on such plans to help me lose weight if I ever needed to.

Well, another big detail is metabolism. Each person has a different metabolism, some are slow and others... not, the metabolism is accelerated and burn fat fast. There is no doubt, always to do any physical activity will help a lot. There are no miracles in weight loss :nono: without physical activity. -_-

Portion control is very important. Americans are raised in the "supersize" culture. One serving at restaurants like Applebee's is enough to feed two people. Also, people eat too much processed food nowadays. Fresh food like vegetable and fruit is pricier than frozen and canned food. Is it a surprise that obesity is worse in lower income neighborhood?

I'm very lucky. My mother cooks for me. :)fear:) So , I always can have home made meals. She's also into juicing. But, how many people are as fortunate as I? They have no choice but to rely on the less healthy options.

Totally agree with you. I hate to sound discouraging. But, there really isn't a quick and easy way to weight loss. Furthermore, our weight, is very much like our height - largely depends on our genes.

For me personally, I would not spend money on any weight loss program.

Exercise is still the best way to stay healthy.

i hate deiting it never works :rolleyes2: :rolleyes2:

but i'll say eat your own food you don't need to have someone else food to lose wright really :rolleyes2:

^^That is a good one too, but the person has to be disciplined in following healthy cooking methods, buying healthy foods, and eating reasonable amounts. I guess people buy the diet foods because they do not have to calculate portions, nutrition, etc., everything is cooked and measured for you.

JANET herself actually said it in her book that healthy food and exercice was the only key... now, as much as I love her and think she's beautiful, how would I believe her with this Nutrisystem she didn't really used (She has her own cook and her own trainer, I don't)...

I agree, and thats' how I dont get how it can work unless you eat that way all your life. First you need to change the way you live, and the way you eat (like you said, what you eat and how much). Sometimes understand what food is for you, consciously or not. Otherwise, even if you loose weight, you will go back to square one as soon as you stop the program.

Yes.... I doubt and do not believe for one second that Janet uses this product.

Maybe sometimes stars do not use a product but simply endorse it because they like it or believe in it. I don't know. Many stars give their voice and faces for medical or insurance products on TV, but I am sure they do not buy that particular elderly insurance. Maybe Janet used it once in her life. How about a novel idea--she gets paid for endorsing this product.

Janet's actually not getting paid for her endorsing Nutrisystem, she said so herself. She will be giving her proceeds to NutriBank, which she co found, NutriBank was created to help aid world hunger, NutriSystem pledged to donate $1 for every pound lost on the system

Oh I see, very nice cause, so maybe she is doing this to help the pledge.
