I was watching youtube clips of this show, had no idea they were made to do a variety show! In a way I feel bad for them as if they weren't doing enough stuff. I wonder if they enjoyed it, or not really, more something they were forced into?
I bet Michael was glad when he could branch out on his own away from it, though he does look like he is having fun in the videos.

ETA: Watching these shows, it really makes me wonder how the family kept up with it all, the shows they had to do, the tours, the traveling, the practicing, just thinking about it all wears me out!

Michael didn't like the shows, he wrote that in his autobiography "Moonwalk". It was a rather cheesy show, but on the other hand it shows Michael's raw talent in an amazing way as we have it discussed here:

They may be a bit cheesy, but I nevertheless love those shows, especially because they show aspects of Michael's talent as a dancer that we didn't get to see that much later on. I mean those tap dancing routines to songs from musicals, Mike and Latoya's Fred & Ginger imitations and the robot dancing to tunes like "Pick up the Pieces" and "Dancing Machine." Added to what he used to do in his later videos, television appearances and concert tours they give us a more complete picture of all MJ could do as a dancer. I love little Janet with her Mae West and Pearl Bailey imitations also and the swing numbers with the three girls. I pretty much like all of it except for the 'guest stars' who for the most part were annoying.

Yeah I figured Joe was pushing for it. It is neat to see them do the little skits, but a lot of them are rather corny!

Thanks for the link!
