He sings the doggone girl is mine, - what does that mean?

It's a deviation of the expression "Goddamn". I could be wrong, but it could be something from the southern United States.

See that's what I was thinking too, and he used in mainly in the bad era and in songs like "Smooth Criminal" that definition makes sense as not only is it a widely used term in the U.S., but given as how Michael is adverse to swearing that meaning makes sense, but that's kinda harsh for it to be used in TGIM.

Plus usually when its used to mean "goddamn" its used in conjuction with the word "it", and he doesn't use it that way in TGIM, though in other songs he does. Which leads me to think there is either another meaning or it plays the same role as "hee hee".

It's the nice, "innocent" way to say

"the $^^* %&$$# **)*^ %) girl is mine!!!!!!"

^^^^:rofl:when u put it that way it makes much more sense...I'm a word freak and was confused there for a while....

"doggon" is an old word for that means "damn" or "bloody"

—DOGGONE verb
doggone it: American English spoken old-fashioned used when you are slightly annoyed about something

—doggone adjective, adverb:
Ex: What are those doggone kids doing in my yard?
^^ I once looked the word up and found the same thing. The way he says "Doggone" whether TGIM or in live performances of some other songs, that sounds tight.

I probably could not stop laughing listening to that song if he had decided to replace "doggone" with one of its synonyms ... with his soft voice and everything. :D
