How do you differentiate between RnB and The Blues?

It typically comes down to chord progression. Blues has a very characteristic 12 bar or 16 bar progression (I-IV-I-IV-V-I), R&B doesn't have to follow this structure. R&B also tends to incorporate more diverse themes and genres than the blues.
