Hostels in Paris

I am supposed to going to Paris in the summer with a friend.
We are students so we dont have a lot of money so we thought we would stay in a hostel, i am a bit reluctant cos they have a reputation - but i dont think i shuould really listen to that as it is not exactly reliable.
Has anyone here ever stayed in a hostel? What are they like?
Does anyone know the name of one in Paris?

dont believe all you hear about hostels, like everything, there are good and bad ones. I would recommend going to STA and asking them about places to stay in Paris. They are the experts in student travel and Ive always had good experiences when I have booked anything with them.

I've been to an Ibis hotel, it was very, very nice!
great croissants in the morning and very polite and sweet people who work there

joking, I have no idea about hostels (are there any here in the u.s.?) It's just that every time i hear the word, i think of the movie.....(watch out 4 the crazies)!
