Flo Rida 'wouldn't be here' without Jackson

Flo Rida has claimed that his music career "probably wouldn't have happened" without Michael Jackson.

The 'Right Round' rapper said that he wasn't surprised by Jackson's sell-out shows at London's O2 arena, describing the veteran popstar as a "big inspiration".

"Had Michael not broken the barriers it probably wouldn't have happened for guys such as myself," he told the Daily Star.

"Both Akon and Ne-Yo feature on my new album and you wouldn't have any of us without Michael. African-American history was massively changed by Michael as a person, never mind his music, which broke records and took videos to the next level after 'Thriller'."

He continued: "All over the world he is known and loved on such a massive level, so to see that as a young guy it changed my life....His songs are so emotional and he is a great attribute to music."

Flo Rida also praised Lady GaGa, describing her as a future "icon". "It is most definitely refreshing to hear someone like her," he said. "And of course, the leotards are all good by me."

I'm not really into Flo Rida's music but it is really cool that he is acknowledging how many doors Michael has opened for so many in the industry. I really respect Flo Rida for saying this :).

I despise Flo rida so I have a hard time caring for what he says.
To me he is that type of dude that just goes with the wind, if MJ wouldn't sold out the arenas Flo' would've probably been "yeah screw MJ, he need to take off his glove and hat".

I base my opinion of Flo rida by interviews I've read of him in the past.... and of course by his "music".

No. Right Round features Kesha Sebert. She did backing vocals on Britney Spears' "Lace and Leather".

I remember seing Flo Rida with a Thriller-like jacket on i one of his music videos with T-Pain. I'd have to admit Im not really into his music, but its always great when people praise Michael, 'cause his very right in what his saying :)

I ain't into Flo Rida as an artist, but it's nice to hear him acknowledging MJ like that. It's so true, he opened the doors wide open for other black artists to have their videos played on MTV. Thanx for posting this.
