The thread announcing Michael's latest Guinness World record got me thinking about my own attempt to break a world record (well, along with 6000 other crazy people). Back in the 90's for several years I participated in the annual New York City Macy's Tap-o-Mania event where well over 6000 people of all ages and sizes tap danced simultaneously to a single tap routine on Herald Square in front of Macy's. Records were broken but I'm not sure if they stand today. It was a fun event. I would meet my sisters there around 8:00 in the morning, register, get our free one-size fits all t-shirts and plastic top hats, wear our heeled shoes (I think the last year I participated I wore real tap shoes), practice and practice the routine following along with very patient tap captains and then when noon came it was showtime! We would then perform the routine 3 times in a row. I loved that they brought out some of the huge Macy's parade balloons for the event. Then we'd go home exhausted and watch 10 second footage of the event on the evening news.
So what record breaking events or record breaking attempting events have you participated in? Post your photos.
