The NYT has a massive feature on Conan O’Brien taking over the reigns of The Tonight Show. I haven’t had a chance to check it out just yet, but it includes the first look above at the set that will appear on millions of TVs (and broken grads’ monitors) for years to come. Conan makes his debut in the NBC slot on June 1st with guest Will Ferrell and musical act Pearl Jam.

First impression: it isn’t straying too far from the iconic, classic days of Johnny Carson or the lesser ones of Leno. Here’s a funny quote from Conan from the feature per the design: “I said, I don’t want a desk made of onyx and baboon skulls.” In addition, am I the only one who thinks it would be a sly move on David Letterman’s part to hire Norm MacDonald as a wing-man to create extra fireworks against Big Red? Norm’s recent guest spot on The Late Show was nearly as badass as his uncensored stint on Howard Stern. Time will tell.

It's pretty much just Late Night with the band to the right instead of the left. I like it though.

I hate Will Ferrell though. :( Norm MacDonald is awesome though. You all should go check out that vid of him on Late Night where some chick is promoting Chairman Of The Board with Carrot Top and see Norm's reaction.

I said it before and I'll say it again..I won't watch Conan. As far as I'm concerned, that job was Letterman's to begin with. Carson wanted Letterman to succeed him and NBC stabbed both of them in the back and gave it to Leno.

Leno has his funny moments, but Letterman IMO is funnier. I give Conan 2 years tops and NBC will look for a new host. He is NOT that funny

I feel the same way about Letterman though, and that's probably a big reason everyone still has a job: they all do pretty well and have their fans.
