Fabolous Talks Michael Jackson Birthday Celebration

Michael Jackson was without a doubt one of, if not the, biggest pop stars of our time. His music and life touched millions, and even in death his memory still lives on a year after his passing.
This Sunday (August 29) the King of Pop would have celebrated his 52nd birthday. In honor of his life and legacy, Spike Lee will be hosting "Spike Lee's Michael Jackson Birthday Celebration" at Brooklyn's Prospect Park for the second consecutive year.
MTV2's "Sucker Free" host DJ Envy spoke with Brooklyn MC Fabolous about the event being thrown in his home borough.

"I mean Brooklyn is just one of the many places across the world who lived Mike's music and, you know, Spike is probably one of those people that felt like it was only just die to give him his props in BK," Fab told DJ Envy.
The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Those attending can expect to hear classic MJ hits like "Beat It," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Thriller" and numerous others.
For more information about the event, click here. And as always, RIP to the King.

Celebrate Jackson at 'MJ52' in Tucson Sunday

Tucson fans of Michael Jackson on Sunday will be moonwalking and line-dancing to the late singer’s best-loved hits in honor of what would have been his 52nd birthday.
“Happy Birthday Michael Jackson — MJ52” is the second annual Tucson celebration of the singer. The first came two months after Jackson died in June 2009.
“It was just really overwhelming,” said organizer Barbea Williams, whose namesake dance company is hosting the event. “It was packed.”
This year’s event will move into the auditorium of the Dunbar Culture Center, 325 W. Second St.
It will include trivia contests, moonwalking contests, performances by a troupe of young dancers from area high schools and audience singalongs. The event runs from 3 to 8 p.m. and the cost is $6 per person, with family discounts available. For details, call 628-7785.

own is planning to hold a special tribute celebration to mark the King of Pop's 52nd birthday this weekend.
The late singer's childhood town of Gary, Indiana will hold a celebration outside his first home on Saturday, according to Access Hollywood.
In a statement, the town's mayor Rudy Clay said that he was especially proud to honour the 'Thriller' singer because he was "the world's greatest entertainer" and a giving person.
No doubt the event will involve local musicians and Jackson impersonators.

Michael Jackson's "Beat It" on a banjo?

I really don't know whether a Michael Jackson song ever needed to be turned into a bluegrass song. Like, I really don't know. But this press release just came across my inbox:

MICHAEL JACKSON RECEIVES BLUEGRASS BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE
Honeywagon Releases Songs from Neverland – a Bluegrass Tribute to Michael Jackson
NASHVILLE,TN – Six years after the chart-topping success of their album Green Day Blue Grass, which spent over a year in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart, the boys from the “newgrass” trio Honeywagon have released a tribute to the King of Pop just in time to celebrate his August 29 birthday. Songs from Neverland – a Bluegrass Tribute to Michael Jackson (Rainfeather Records/N2U), is available now on iTunes.

Featuring ten of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits, Songs from Neverland puts an upbeat, harmony-induced spin on songs like “Billie Jean,” “Man In The Mirror,” “Black or White,” and “Beat It.” Taking their craft to a new level of musicianship and creativity, this album marks the fourth release from Honeywagon and represents a new direction for the trio whose previous releases include tributes to Blink-182, Rolling Stones, and Green Day.

Honeywagon is comprised of Texas native, Bryan “BC” Clark, Loren "L-Train" Ellis from Malibu, CA, and man-of-the-world Mo Levone. Each brings their own life experiences and musical background to the table that, when combined, produce what they call a “newgrass” vibe.

All Honeywagon albums are available on iTunes and at http://www.honeywagonmusic.com.

Track List:

1. Beat It
2. PYT
3. Man In The Mirror
4. Billie Jean

About Honeywagon trio members:
Bryan "BC" Clark began his professional career as the opening act for legendary jazz guitarist Larry Carlton. A graduate of University of Southern California (BM, DMA), and University of Texas (MM), Bryan releases an average of two albums per year, does session work in Los Angeles and Nashville, collaborates with dance troupes and spoken word artists, and is in demand as a film composer, producer, songwriter, and guitarist.

Loren "L-Train" Ellis is the only person from his Malibu high school to have ever played the banjo. With a Bachelor's Degree in Music from The University of Southern California, he currently resides in Nashville and has become an in-demand guitarist playing on countless recording sessions and touring with country acts such as Josh Gracin, Chris Cagle, and Mark Wills. In addition to his numerous studio credits, Ellis can be heard daily singing the main theme song to the hit Disney Network show "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody."

Mo Levone, having lived all over the United States and in Italy, still considers the San Francisco Bay Area to be his home, although currently living in Nashville, he enjoys the career of an active, professional musician touring and recording as much as he can. After receiving a Master's Degree in Music from the University of Southern California, Levone joined the faculty at USC, teaching electric bass. He has performed with many musical artists including Lisa Loeb, Josh Gracin, Mark Wills, and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, with whom he recorded the Grammy-winning album, Guitar Heroes.
