Everyone has made a mistake in their lives. What is thee DUMBEST mistake you ever made.

I've made 2 big ones in life...the 1st was in my teen years when I took a car when I shouldn't have....didn't see the harm in it, just having fun......1 year probation and 20 hours community service later...I thought I was a changed person.....wrong.

Thee dumbest one I did was getting fired from work for theft. Times got tough and I was trying to find a way to get more money to pay the bills....let's just say when I worked retail, in charge of running the layaway department, when it came for disbursing money for returned layaway items, I wasn't honest.....got caught and have to pay the price.

It's only a misdemeanor, but it's something I have to live with for the rest of my life, and I'll have to answer to God.

Now that I've come cleaned, how about everyone else?

Let me preface this by saying I was a teenager and this happened way back in the early 80's. I was earning my first pay ever so I decided to buy my mother a nice set of china. But on the way back home entering the subway that box of china was awfully heavy and the train was coming. I could hear it. I didn't want to miss it. I decided to make a run for it through the gate without paying. I didn't see any cops around so I thought I was safe. But I just couldn't get to the darn train in time. The doors closed in my face and who was standing next to me? A cop. Oh boy. He gave me a summons. I had to go to court with my mother. I think I paid $3.00 or some rediculous fine (it was the 80's NYC). I have never done anything stupid like that again. It was just that the China was just so heavy. Heh. My mom and family laugh about it now. We still have the China and everytime we use it on Thanksgiving I watch people eating on them like a hawk because I went through so much for it!

I suppose my lack of care when installing a new third party CPU cooler in my £540 custom gaming PC. I must have done something to the hardware because it will now crash roughly twice every 24 hours without warning. CPU / GPU temps are fine so I can't really see what the problem is...what makes it even worse is that the fan only reduced my CPU temps by about 5 degrees and I still can't do a stable overclock.

I'm only 17 so I'm sure I'll do something even dumber.

Hmm, that would be :
1. Falling in love with an MJ hater (teen years)
2. Being this selfish egoistic bitch for years. Not caring about anyone or anything. Only myself and my horses & sport career. I'm sure I have hurt people... :(

I stole a lipgloss from ASDA when I was 9 or 10!

Then I was soo harboured with guilt that I wrapped it up in paper & wrote 'To Amber, love from ASDA' and left it on Amber's doorstep!!!

(Amber was a girl my age who lived down the street. ASDA is a massive supermarket company)

That was dumb.

I never got to know what they thought when they saw that on the doorstep! hahah!

(I've said things in anger that I regret, but I wouldn't put that under 'dumb', more like 'horrible')

Probably the most dumbest thing I had ever done was trying to teach myself how to swim. This happen 8 summers ago in 2002 at my grandfather's house. I was 22 then. I was so sick and tired of not be able to swim. That I decided to teach myself how to swim since no one else is going to bother to show me how to. So as I try to teach myself the Doggie paddle in the shallow end and I well went under and I almost drown. And I decided not to ever try that again and just got out of the pool. I haven't been back in to a pool since that horrible incident. I still can't swim though.

got involved with the wrong so called 'friend'
we made a 'burn book' about people in our class who we didnt like and then people found out about it...we fell out and i got all the blame! stupidest thing ive ever done!!

Parked my car on double yellow lines outside my local shop last November. Was only in there 3 mins to buy milk I'd forgotten in main shop.
Came out to a ticket on the windscreen!
Thought I'd pick it off and look at it once I got home- but the heavens opened as I drove away so had to put wipers on full! Ooopsie the 'ticket' flew off!
Thought I could ignore it, and didnt hear anything until a letter came the other day 9 months later- with threat to pay £120 or have goods siezed to recover costs!
Note to self- dont park on a double yellow line!
What makes me mad is seen loads of people park there since with no 'tickets'/ fines, and see loads of dangerous driving offences such as speeding, seemingly escape punishment!
That's my dumb act rant over!
LOL
Except it really isnt funny on my bank balance :-(

LOL we both posted our 'dumb act' at the same time! :D
In fact your post reminded me of something else from yrs back when I was at school! About 30yrs ago infact!
I acted out of character and ended up falling out with a good friend.
The whole class turned against me after that and made my life a misery at school.
I was too stubborn to say sorry at the time, and even now 30 + yrs on sent that now woman in her 40's ( like me) a message to say how sorry I was for that incident.
I still regret that to this day, as she hasnt forgiven me

awww it's never too late to learn though! :) Adult swimming lessons should have others who are just as nervous as you. I was always scared to take my feet off the bottom of the pool. I finally managed it when I was about 12yrs old, alot later than my friends.
My dad taught me, and he showed me the 'breast stroke'. Doggie paddle is for doggies! :D
You'll be so glad when you do learn to swim- it feels lovely!

Jumped out of a moving car once... Silly me.. I was 11 and getting ready to enter the 6th Grade. And because I was going to a new school we had to get booster shots.. I Was terrified. My mom didn't tell me until we were on the road and I unbuckled my seat belt and jumped and RAN out of a moving car..

I was soooo grounded..

When I in 7th grade. I was friends with this girl "Evie" who liked to have sex with many boys and didn't care about the consequences. One day we were sitting in her bedroom and Evie was going on about how she was gonna have sex with this 9th grader during homecoming weekend. I told her to think about the potential conseqences of her actions (ie: pregnancy, stds, aids, rape, etc) but she was like "oh that won't happen to me. and if i do get pregnant, big deal." Then she started to say that I was just jealous because I was too ugly to get any guy to be with me and she could have any guy she wanted just at the snap of a finger. When she got up to do something (I don't remember what) I went to the stash of condoms she kept, and to teach her a lesson about facing the reality to the consequences of her actions, I poked holes in the condom wrappers with a pin. Since I could remember, I always had common sense but that day, it went out the window and I never thought in a million years that both reap what we so. Homecoming weekend Evie had sex and the condom broke. Few weeks later, she found out she was pregnant. I had the most enormous amount of guilt because I knew that it was my fault. My immaturity and stupidity got the best of me, and did something I wish I never did in the first place. I watched her become the target of taunts, insults, rumors by students, and even the teachers would give her dirty looks. It killed me to know she was going through that because of me. The whole time she clinged on to me for support and a shoulder to cry on, she did not know that she was running to the person who was responsible for her unplanned pregnancy at 13 years old. July 2000 Evie had a baby boy named Dante Trent.

Shortly after Dante was born, Evie left the area. I didn't see her again until 2003. She told me that she dropped out of school and moved in with a friend of the family since her family disowned her. She was struggling to raise her son as a single mother. Dante's father, the 9th grader she had slept with, denied he was the father and said that there were multiple men who could be the daddy. After a DNA test in the hospital proved he was the biological father, he fled the state and the country after graduation. I felt ashamed that I had put Evie through this. So I started helping her out with buying diapers, wipes, food, and clothes for Dante. She thought it was because I was being a good friend, but in reality it was my way of facing the consequences of my own actions.

Fast forward to 2010. Dante is now 10 and going into the 5th grade. He plays basketball, baseball, and soccer. Evie is now married with 2 year old twins Morgan and Bryson. She knows what I did (I ended up confessing to her, but she already knew) and does not hold it against me. She said having Dante was the best thing to ever happen to her and the whole experience from struggling to where she is now was worth it because it made her a stonger more wiser person. She doesn't take a single thing for granted and it made her appreciate life in general.

The guilt is gone, but I still wish I didn't do what I did.

^ I know you may not agree, but that or worse would have happened. It was essentially her fault for choosing to have sex with dumb boys when she is unprepared to face the consequences. Poking holes in her condoms was probably not the brightest way to go about teaching her a lesson, but condoms break on their own anyway and if she really was that loose, it would have happened sooner or later. Some people don't learn their lesson until life slaps them square in the face.

As far as dumb things I have done, I can't think of one from recent years. I do have one dumb thing, though. When I was 4, I almost set a gas station on fire (I was reading the newspaper outside with a magnifying glass while my deadbeat idiot dad filled the tank of the car. Luckily, he caught me and managed to stomp the small fire out before I killed us all. I think that takes the cake for stupidest thing I have ever done lol.

Ever caring about what others thought of me.
Wasting my youth on nothing.
Letting people in my life.... That was really dumb.

I won't make the same mistakes twice.

Dumbest thing I did was when I decided not to go to Michael's house when I was in LA in March 2009. I didn't want to bother him and told myself that I would see him soon in London anyway.

The dumbest not Michael-related thing was quitting my previous job for my current job.

Fall in love with someone who doesn't respect you, just because you are an mj fan.
Before all this, we were trying to get something, you know a relationship. Then she said to me she wasn't ready for all of this, and then you hear from a friend she just kissed 4 guys on a evening. I was like damn, how could you?
All I did, I put so much effort in it, you know, it hurt me alot.
Then she said she wouldn't go on with me, because I'm just not like everyone else.
Most stupid thing I ever did.

But now I have a beautiful girl who I love:heart:

Ouch. :better:

I did something similar, also in March 2009 - I decided not to skip school to see Michael at the 02 Arena (for the conference) because I thought I'd be seeing him again in London throughout the entire spring/summer... BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE! I try not to dwell on it now. It was enough for me that we got to experience the same weather.

Well, it's probably the dumbest thing I ALMOST did....I was in the my last semester of nursing, after 4 years of hard work...I had the WORST nursing preceptor who made me want to quit nursing...and I almost did...I was dead set on it...I was just too stressed and anxious to finish, because of the way she was treating me...she was on a major power trip, and I let myself feel defeated...I know it would have been the stupidest thing I would have done, and if it wasn't for my family, friends, and instructors (who basically WOULD NOT let me quit) I wouldn't be a nurse today...:D

in saying that, i've done A LOT of minor things that were pure dumb....just can't think of them all right now

I did something similar while in college. I majored in business management which for someone like myself who hates math and is not good at it at all, that was pretty stupid of me to begin with. I wasn't too far from earning the required credits but I was so stressed out and overwhelmed at one point with all the accounting, finance, business, etc etc. that I almost dropped out. I had had enough! But then a really nice tutor I was working with talked me out of it and convinced me to stay. Thank goodness for her or I would not have my degree today! :)
