Dr Dre declined to produce songs for Invincible

I never heard that, hopefully someone knows.

That woulda been cool though. Invincible woulda been completely different.

I don't know if it was for Invincible, but Dr. Dre did turn down Michael and Madonna as well in the 1990s. Dre said said he didn't really want to work with people with a lot of demands or something like that.

That's Dre's loss then. He hasn't been really relevant for a long, long time anyways. But all the hot producers/rappers wanted to work with Michael in the 2000s inc. Diddy, Jay Z, Will.i.am, Akon, Timbaland.

Perhaps Dre heard that Michael was a perfectionist in the studio and put out only THE BEST and that scared Dre off. But like Akon said, Michael had a musical legacy to uphold. Michael couldn't just put out anything.

I never heard this, but I could see why he would decline. I mean, producing songs for Michael Jackson!? You really wouldn't want to mess that up.
Maybe he just thought he wasn't the right man for the job, Michael always had his own visions and ideas for songs and that could have scared Dre off.

If he actually did decline, i would think it was because his aesthetic and taste is so different to that of Michaels. When i think of Dr.Dre, it's all gangster, hoes and guns. In response to his declination, i still think it was really his loss. Who would pass up working with Michael? It's a dream!!

I don't know about this one. In my opinion Invincible would've benefitted from a few less Rodeny Jerkins tracks. Could Dre or Diddy have provided superior alternatives? That's the question. Personally I would've liked to have seen more solo Michael Jackson productions or Teddy Riley collaborations on that record.

I would have liked to have seen Teddy Riley & The Neptunes production team going on, on the Invincible album. That would have been killer!

Yeah, he turned it down for some reason because apparently he has a completely different work ethic or something or just up his own arse lol.

I read on the wiki page of Invincible that he was considered but refused.

He produced Michel'le & Gwen Stefani, which aren't those things. Also the "Smooth Criminal" video is about gangsters & guns, although 1920s style, lol. The "Beat It" video is about gangs. Mike said one of his favorite movies was "The Godfather". I don't get why people think Mike was all Disney & Peter Pan.

You wait til "Detox" is released (I know I'm still waiting for it, lol). Til then, if you haven't already, listen to "2001" or "Chronic" and you'll see why he's the best.

You've pretty much summed up my thoughts on Invincible. I heart you.

I hear that!

I never heard that one. Sweet, I just learned sumthing. I've been watching movies that Mike liked/influenced him and I must say the man had taste.

I read this a while back. Dre declined because he doesn't want to work with artists who have too much of a defined sound, he wants to be able to work freely and build them up from the start. I remember he kicked Rakim off Aftermath a few years ago for the same reason.

Don't know about Dr. Dre, but Michael could have made some killer tracks with The Neptunes.
Sorry that never happenend.
Maybe they can still finish & remix some unfinished songs!!!

smooth crim wasnt soft porn tho was it and atleast he didnt have naked black women in it
Maybe not, but Mike did have a porn collection. "You Are Not Alone" did have a naked white woman in it, lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dre declined. We all agree that MJ is a perfectionist and he demands of a lot of any producer he is working with. That means a lot of time in the studio. Regarding Dre, you gotta remember, in the late 90's and early 2000's, he was a very busy man at the time, working on his own Chronic 2001 album, working with a new artist named Eminem among countless other r&b/hip-hop acts. I think time constraints would've have made it impossible for Dre to be the main producer on Invinvcible. However, I do remember wishing back then that the record included work from more producers, including at least 1 track from Dre, contributions from Pharrell, and from DJ Quik. Either way, I still enjoy the album.

Dr.Dre does have that image in his music, but esp. after the NWA days and with-Snoop days, I think he collaborated with many other artists beyond that theme (i.e.Mary J.Blige-"Family Affair", Truth Hurts and so on...dunno why I can't think of many others) Yeah Dre shoulda had more courage to work with Michael! Maybe the gangsta in Michael intimidated him a lil:) Michael might have been like, "You're missin out, dude" (a la the way he said it in LWMJ) lol

In my opinion the greatest hip hop producer ever is DJ Jazzy Jeff. I heard that he and Mike did some songs together but they were never released

That is untrue - Dr Dre has a very consistent production discography.
He's produced some of the most amazing music in the hiphop scene this last decade - but unlike most producers today, he stays in the studio in stead of going out to the clubs and dance to his own shit.
Dr Dre is on a level where he don't even have to talk shit anyone - he just does what he do.
The sonic landscape in his productions are usually on a level way above average - especially in a industry where most of the music sounds "crushed" (read: compressed)

I don't think the fear of two perfectionist is coming together has anything to do with Michael and Dre not working together.

Maybe not, but Mike did have a porn collection. "You Are Not Alone" did have a naked white woman in it, lol.

Exactly - I think people need to acknowledge that aside from all that extra stuff, Michael still was a regular dude.
I mean, why on earth wouldn't he have a porn collection or trying to holla at women?!
You can watch both Disney and porn - maybe not at the same time, but come on son.

Haha I've been waiting like a muhfo' for Detox also!
Rumor is that some of the beats on The Game's first album was initially made for Detox - Those beats we're incredible, especially "Don't Worry (Feat. Mary J Blige)".
I wonder if Snoop Dogg's "Imagine" was for Detox also - another incredible beat - and so the beats on Busta Rhymes' album "The Big Bang".

BTW, have you heard the leaked Detox demos that T.I. wrote for Dr Dre?!
One the demos is named "Topless" - I would absolutely love to hear a final product with Dr Dre on it.

EDIT: YouTube has blocked all the versions with T.I. rapping on it, but I found a looped instrumental of "Topless":

i think Dre really scared that michael was perfectionist.........He escaped from 18 hours working a day : )
