In this article from 2005 the Merdedes is mentioned
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,159140,00.html

The word is that Jackson's camp has found less expensive storage facilities closer to Neverland. But moving the Rollses may not be so easy, since most of them do not seem to run.

In other ***** auto news: the $400,000 Mercedes Pullman limo I told you the singer bought in 2003 still has no license plates.

Nevertheless, this was the car that Jackson had the Rev. Jesse Jackson chauffeured around in this week. The civil rights leader probably had no idea he was riding in an unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered automobile.

any idea how he got access to it? and when did this sale happened? recent or back in the day?

and what is being said on the video?

^Good find!
Mrs Happyland looks happy. I wonder if this was one of the deals done when Wiesner visited with Joe, a year or two back ?
I wonder what else of Michael's aside from handwritten lyrics and other signed memorabilia have ended up in Vietnam?

Interesting that these cars and 'lots of boxes' were emptied from Santa Monica Airport 'hangar' storage in 2005, and as if by magic, Brett Livingstone Strong reveals Michael's artwork 'created and stored in a Santa Monica Airport Hangar' after MJ's death. I wonder if the removal men removed the drawings in 2005 and er, put them back again in 2009-10?

Re. Mme Thao:
I gather that despite the indications given by this purchase of a luxurious vehicle, progress on the Happyland complex is running behind schedule owing to 'lack of investment'

The latest information released by Khang Thong Group showed that the investor is gathering the strength to develop the project, hoping to put the 50-hectare Vietnamese culture area into operation prior to the 2013 Tet. However, this is just one of the 150 items of the Happyland complex.

Local newspapers have reported that 60 percent of the works of the item have been fulfilled. Another item, a balloon with the expected diameter of 20 meters capitalized at over one million dollars has been well inflated, which would be into operation soon.

The works on the 3.7 kilometer embankment adjacent to the Vam Co Tay River, which costs tens of billions of dong, is also nearly completing.

However, the construction of a lot of other important items of Happyland, including the five star hotel, shopping area, or cinema has not been started yet.
The main reason behind the slow project implementation is that the investor still cannot arrange capital.
As for Happyland project, in order to mobilize capital for implementing the other items slated for the first phase of the project, Khang Thong would have to call for foreign investment.
According to Nguyen Huu Viet, Deputy General Director of Happyland Media, a subsidiary of Khang Thong Group, said three investors from South Korea, Japan and Sweden have expressed their interest in the project. The foreign partners are negotiating the capital contribution to the five-star 1000-room hotel, an item of the project.

Viet also said that Tran Group, owned by a Viet Kieu in the US, has also shown its interest in Happyland.

As such, lacking capital has hindered the investors to develop their projects. However, analysts believe that even if they can mobilize capital, they would be facing big difficulties when putting the projects into operation.
Thibault Paquin, President of the US based Celebrating Life, specializing in designing modern leisure parks, said though the model is very popular in the US and some Asian countries still cannot develop well in Vietnam.

“Vietnamese people would have to wait some more years to have money to pay 50-100 dollars for the admission tickets,” he said, adding that 90 percent of the leisure parks in China are taking loss, which should be a lesson for Vietnamese investors.

Obviously no clue about the Vietnamese...

The rest of the German (2 minutes into it, I'll finish in a minute) is stuff like "let's start the ignition", 'show her how that seat folds down", "too bad we forgot the CD in the office" (to test the stereo). That the car is in great shape etc.
"This is the car that Dieter and Michael used to drive around - through Berlin, through L.A. [???? It's pretty expensive to have a car that is 'up to code' in both countries - you're not allowed the same red blinkers in Germany that you use in the US. Been there done that. Pain in the rear. Have a hard time imagine going through the trouble and taxes of bringing that car back and forth]. And now I'm sitting in it - not too shabby!
Now everybody is sitting in the back - Dieter, Madame Tao. You can't put it into words, it's unbelievable. Shall we take it for a spin?" Suddenly there's that yell and the comment "well, not everything can be perfect every day."

Then the German with a Turkish accent says he's already filming and that he just needs to walk around the car.

If anything else pops up, I'll edit. So far it's been the most boring video ever and I've watched a few.

There's no negotiation, no numbers, nothing.

Just a little reminder from one of the Happyland / Cannes threads, when Joe and Dieter were globetrotting together:

Joe and Dieter in Vietnam for Joes' Birthday, 26th July 2011:
(Dieter is just about viisible from about 2.08 onwards, in the background.)

This was Joe and Dieter's itinerary, according to his website post dated 21 May 11:
Joseph Jackson arrived in Los Angeles California, after a global trip that so him travel part of the globe in 4 weeks: From Las Vegas to Bangkok Thailand, Ho Chi Ming City Vietnam, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf Germany, Cannes, Nice and Monaco France, (Frankfurt, Dusseldorf), and France (Cannes, Nice and Monaco).

He is scheduled to stay in Los Angeles with his wife Katherine Jackson for 10 days of relaxation before heading off to Las Vegas, to prepare for his premiere party with Canadian firm Jewelines and Perfume designer Julian Rouas scheduled for the 9th of June at the Cosmopolitan Casino in Las Vegas.

This was the year that Mme Thao travelled back to the USA with them, so I guess she may have been in Germany with them too.
(I'm fairly sure she was also in France with them).
Here she is in Gary in August 11 :

I checked the lyrics you hear later on - "Nur noch kurz die Welt retten" was published in April/May 2011. So it's rather unlikely this was any time before 2011. But definitely past 6/25/2009.

Edit: I just saw Myosotis' posting about the Vietnamtrip. Must be 2011 then when this car footage was shot. And my guess would be either Duesseldorf, or Frankfurt, based upon the other accents.

ok :) I would also think that Madam Thao wasn't probably in the picture until after Michael's death and her involvement with Happyland.

Also does it look like the sale happened in Germany? Given that many people are talking German on the video?

Yeah, I saw other German license plates real brief. (everyone is in the European Union, but the license plates are distinctly different in each country). My guess would be Frankfurt - biggest German airline hub. Especially Asia flights mostly start from Frankfurt. Some international flights in Duesseldorf, too, but that's mostly Europe and North America.

My guess would be a Mercedes Benz dealership with it's own repairshop given all the other cars of the same model. Or even right by the airport.

I would go with Myosotis' estimate of July/August of 2011 - Germans don't run around in short sleeves unless it's baking.
And earlier in the video they were lamenting that's it's too bad they forgot the CD in the office - so my guess is they turned on the radio and you don't really hear German stuff outside a few countries.

wow impressive job :)

I'm guessing the only question is how Dieter had this car in his possession & ownership.

I checked Estate accounting and it lists 5 Rolls Royce and 1 Bentley in Estate's possession. They didn't have a Mercedes. So I'm assuming this car was in Dieter's possession at the time he stopped working for Michael - before Michael's death.

Odd thing. Certainly wasn't in the Estate list at the time of his death. That particular model was built in 2001/2002.
And then Wiesner mentioned in his book going for a pizza locally in California. Ya know, Michael all hunched down etc. The weird thing is though that all locals in the area (particularly the antiques places) were all used to Michael casually going shopping. Nothing like a missile safe vehicle to draw attention to yourself in rural Los Olivos... and locals had all seen him order from Taco Bell etc, wasn't even a big secret. So sometimes I wonder if Michael took Wiesner for the occasional 'ride'...KWIM?

But then there's other stuff that makes me wonder about parallel universes - the way Wiesner described a visit to Michael's 'grave'. Either Wiesner lives in a parallel universe or is extremely ungifted in conveying details in a way that makes them sound - believable.
I'll go check my book, maybe I find a picture - I only remember a Smart Car that Michael inspected politely.

@Pace - it seems like you speak in code? I didn't understand it :)

@Petra we won't know who owns it and/or why Wiesner got it. It seems to be bought in 2003 and not in Estate's possession in 2009. So that leaves a 6 year window.

Legit options would be
- Wiesner paid for it and therefore it's his car.
- The car was bought in Wiesner's name therefore he's the legal owner.
- Michael gifted it to Wiesner
- Wiesner got the car during his settlement with Michael.
and so on

Not legit options would be
- The car was in Wiesner possession and he never returned it to Michael when their business relationship ended.

@Pace - it seems like you speak in code? I didn't understand it :)

...
I think I may have pulled a Wiesner trying to understand the guy - with the effect of sounding like I speak in code.

See, your reaction is very similar to my reaction reading Wiesner's book. I wonder if they just rented the whole thing etc and he's selling it either for someone else or maybe he actually owns it. And I frankly wonder if he's selling that thing as "Michael Jackson's" while Michael maybe sat in it two or three times.

^^

I remember like you were going to do a summary of Wiesner's book. Perhaps I'm late here but did you do it?

lol...at about the same time i said the same thing she said, i said 'wwoooo that's nice'.

Well...both Wiesner and Mercedes both come from Germany...scratching head...

and, curiously, the video was posted on the day of the Superbowl held in the Mercedes Benz Superdome..

I wonder how this vid came to be posted? Whose copy is it, of all the people walking round the car? You can just make out the reflection of the photographer in the paintwork.

In a competition of most random thread titles on mjjc, this would def make the top 5. Am impressed by all the columbos on here making sense of this youtube!

Michael Jackson Collectibles
Cars Collection
1355731188_570X410.jpg

Pop legend Micheal Jackson owned an armada of expensive cars. A grand total of 75 vehicles of types ranging from luxury limos, Rolls Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Chevys, Ford Explorer and pickup trucks were registered in Jackson’s name. The highlights of his luxury car collection were four limousines and the most expensive car in his garage was a 1999 dark blue colored Rolls Royce Silver Seraph, the insides of which was extensively designed by the superstar himself and extensively bore his footprint in the form of a 24 carat gold embossed interior. The lavish interiors of the Seraph were said to bear a strong resemblance to the ostentatious Palace of Versailles. Another luxurious limo Jackson owned was a 1990 Rolls Royce Silver Spur II. The seats of this car sported a black fabric and white leather upholstery. There was also a customized bar stocked with some of the most expensive alcoholic drinks in the world. A silver white colored 1988 Lincoln Town Car was quite modestly decorated compared to some of Michael’s limos and featured a mixture of leather and fabric upholstery alongside walnut wood paneling. The fourth limo in Jackson’s possession was a 1954 Cadillac Fleetwood which was used as a prop while shooting the Academy award Hollywood movie “Driving Miss Daisy”. Jackson’s taste of big cars was not limited to limousines and extended to vans. A 1993 Ford Econoline van was extensively modified and several luxury features like a video game player, personal TV screens located in front of at all the passenger seats and high end seat leather upholstery were fitted inside. Other interesting vehicles in the Jackson collection included a 1909 Detamble Model B Roadster and a1988 GMC Jimmy.

Maybe Wiesner got the car in the settlement between Michael Jackson and Wiesner. I think Michael owning 75 automobiles would have been over a lifetime and amongst family members and staff at "Neverland."

He's a shady crook.. How did Michael ever meet these people?

My biggest question is how come the crooks always steal from him, then they sue him, & he has to pay them, & he never gets back what they steal from him.

Maybe this is a car that Michael sat in & Wiesner is calling it Michael's car to hype up the price. Wouldn't the Mercedes dealer know who bought the car originally anyway?

Well, even his Wiesner bought this thing as his agent etc - it is not easy to come by that kind of information openly. "Datenschutz" ("Protection of personal data") is something highly cherished in many European countries, especially Germany. It's not like in the US were basically everyone can be in your business just because you are a registered voter, etc.

Particularly when it comes to a high end article like a Mercedes - they won't tell, unless you have some disgruntled employee somewhere.
The Pullman is not your everyday car, either, mostly used for head of states etc - hence the missile proof stuff etc.
They could have bought it "preloved" as a private deal. (because frankly... besides heads of state, royalty and MJ I think "mob" when I see that thing...)
I also wonder if it was a private deal instead of a dealership. If you were to walk into a Mercedes dealership in the US and would say "I want this car", they'd care of taxes, registration, making sure it complies with US and specifically California requirements, etc.
It'll cost ya a fortune, but it wouldn't be a hassle.
I'm blabbing on about this because I think Myosotis had posted an article saying that Jesse Jackson supposedly drove around in an unlicensed and unregistered vehicle... in the US the dealer would have given you temporary plates.

I could be totally off- base here and everything was hunky dory but for the life of me I cannot understand who in their right mind would buy this thing, supposedly drive around in L.A. and Los Olives and somehow ends up back in Europe. It would seriously been easier to hit up the mob and ask to buy a vehicle.
Unless Wiesner owed a favor to someone and owed another favor to someone in the moving business, because it simply doesn't make sense. (Wiesner must have some ties with Mercedes - why else would you show Michael a Smart Car?? So that Michael can drive a flamingo around in Neverland? Imagine 40 fans pushing that one over...)

MJ-Smart-car-michael-jackson-16542115-630-420.jpg

There is something like a Social Security Number and it is beeing used to a degree - but never when it comes issues like your driver's license, taxes etc. Which is the actual issue that makes me wonder. It's such an extraordinary PITA to import cars - but of course it's done.

You know what I noticed? Wiesner and Mercedes, Murray loved himself some BMW... and apparently both were not quite knowledgeable about certain things. Murray wants to practice in England without a license and I'm certain Wiesner would have had some more "great ideas" on wasting someone else's money if he stuck around longer. If someone is stuck in the 80ies...

Anyway, this weird thing mystifies me. Or who the heck knows if that is even for real? Is that her?
http://www.ttu.edu.vn/index.php?ava=news&newsid=33323

On first glance she shows up largely in connection with this car. In any case, I'm glad Wiesner didn't get to say anything on Piers Morgan...hope the red eye back was worth it.:rofl:

Sorry for the double post... I just checked if a foreigner a.k.a. Michael is able to register a car in Germany with his main place of residency being the US. He can't. (with the exception of the vehicle being registered to an American citizen on a US Airforce Base - which is something that used to happen quite often around Frankfurt)

Michael would need someone with main residency in Germany. Michael could pay for it, Wiesner would have to register it (they said they drove around in Berlin) to drive it. It would be Wiesner's name in the registration BUT: It is possible for another name to be on the title. But the owner is who OWNS the physical piece of paper, regardless who's initial name is on there... I remember freaking out having to find mine when I moved...

Three guesses in whose name it was registered and who kept the title.

I just checked some German forums and the large consensus is "WTF?? Did Michael sit in it once, or something??"

Pace thanks for your thoughts. I see I am not the only person here who is wondering what in blazes is going on, and I am with the guys on the German forum--Michael may have sat in it about once. One thing we are sure about is that Wiesner knows if he says it is michael's he gets more money & attention. Which brings me to another question--what is Wiesner's purpose on Earth?.

I guess every car mj used while on a trip can be called mjs car inorder to get s few more $ for the actual owner when its sold. Because thats all this seems to be.

^^ I agree it does look as though Wiesner ( or one of his close associates) may have some ties with Mercedes, or at least one of their dealerships. I can't think why that video with Mme Thao would have been released otherwise. Most people don't think of releasing vids of private car sales arrangements.

I'm wondering if Dieter was doing this deal because of how much Michael's 1985 Mercedes 500 SEL went for $104, 500.
$3800 --Best Offer -- is the usual asking price!

Museum buys Michael Jackson's Mercedes for $104.5k

When have you ever seen the King of Pop driving a car? Now you need look no further...

Michael Jackson's black 1985 Mercedes was among the singer's memorabilia to go under the hammer in New York on Saturday.

It sold alongside more than 80 items related to the singer, including the "Holy Grail" of Jackson memorabilia: his famous diamond-studded glove, which sold for £212,000.

The Mercedes 500 SEL was snatched up by Charlie Moore, owner of Hollywood Star Cars Museum, for $104,550.

According to Darren Julien, President of Julien's Auctions, Jackson bought the automobile to drive around his 2,600 acre Neverland ranch, which he occupied from the 1980s through to 2005.

Significantly, the car was sold with photos of Jackson driving it.

"When have you ever seen Michael Jackson driving a car? He was always chauffeured or driven," said Mr Julien.

The 5-litre, V8 engined Mercedes was later gifted to Jackson's aunt for her birthday, after which she customised the license plate to read "TKS MKL".

Mod cons in the vehicle include an automatic temperature control, a "premium" sound system, electrically powered leather seats, burr walnut trim and an outside temperature sensor.

Earlier this year, Julien's Auctions was selected to auction off items from the King of Pop's Neverland ranch.

Other vehicles in Jackson's collection included a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a couple of customised Rolls-Royce limousines, a GMC truck and a 500bhp tour bus.

The auction took place at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City.

It is not yet known if Mr Moore will showcase the Mercedes in his museum. Other exhibits include the 1989 Batmobile, the Volkswagon Beetle featured in Walt Disney's 1967 hit The Love Bug, and a 1955 Ford Thunderbird owned by Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys
