Dangerous World Tour Stockholm Sweden 17/7/92 -Olympic Stadium - Sweden - 53,000

From the 1st leg & it entirely took place in daylight on a summers night. It’s a great bootleg & because of the daylight & the superb angle it was shot from it offers a unique view of what goes on around Jackson while he’s performing. There’s a few boots available but this in my favourite version. This is ’The Left Version’ & there’s also ’The Right Version’. It gives you a sense of being there & captures the show brilliantly.Jackson performed two nights & this is from the first night.

Jam-Jackson explodes onto the stage & it’s captured brilliantly including the few thousand at the front with thousands of arms in the air. Jackson only stands still for just over half a minute (35 seconds) & when he turns his head he remains still for 12 seconds before very slowly removing his aviators. He flings them to the right of the stage where down in the pit inside the barrier his wardrobe man catches them & them & runs back stage. The performance is fantastic. Powerful, energetic & full of presence. You can see everything stage right from production crew members & security. For the choreographed middle section you notice that all 3 guitar players move their heads in sync with Jackson & dancers. It’s something I hadn’t noticed before but it demonstrates the amount of work into perfecting the show. Like certain songs on the Oviedo boot this camera captures a lot of what I’d call ‘The machine that is the Dangerous tour & how well oiled it is. The stage ‘even in the brightness of day is a supreme visual power box of colour, smoke, sound & energy & you can appreciated the stage set more from a distance & see what it’s capable of. The crowd cheer for the side moonwalk which is short. Jackson works the entire stage busting impulsive moves & grooves & striking poses & pouts. A superb performance. Jackson & dancers strike their power pose at the songs end & remain so until Jackson drops his arm which is the queue not only for Jackson’s dancers but for everybody & everything. Dancer’s, Musicians, & Crew. At the moment he drops his arm well after the music has finished & the smoke has cleared dancers limber & wardrobe crew run onto the stage. 2 to attend Jackson & 2 to attend the dance crew. ‘How ya doin?’ Jackson says. ‘Yeah’ he replies to whatever his costume guy asks. ‘Hi Liz’ Jackson says to Elizebeth Taylor who’s out there somewhere. ‘Hee Hee’.

Wanna Be Startin Somethin’-Superb atmosphere & Jackson’s voice is great. Does a lot of his James Brown influenced slid n glid n strutt. Throws some great shapes around 3:40. Everyone is lovin it & clap along to ‘Mamma Say’. Some more James Brown-ish moves & grooves. A great performance.

Human Nature- Jackson wipes his face with a towel. Kisses his hand & point’s to somebody in the crowd & laughs. Liz???
‘Ok’ ‘How ya doin?’ laughs again & throws his towel into the crowd. Good performance. When Jackson freezes after he sing’s ‘reaching out’ & holds his arm in the air you notice his band remain perfectly still. It’s these small things you don’t notice that sets how professional an outfit it is apart from anything else & what makes this boot standout. It allows you to observe other aspects because our time is usually taken up with focusing on Jackson & that makes it easy to forget what goes on behind the scenes. A technical member is doing something to a light on the bands platform, A cameraman is sitting on the stage filming the show & other various crew members doing different things working non-stop behind the scenes. Jackson shouts ’Everybody’ & all sing along. Good robotics & a great mime at the end but the amateur camera footage gets shaky which is annoying. As it ends the wardrobe crew rush onto the stage with Jackson’s Smooth Criminal jacket, fedora & platform step. Watching behind the scenes you really do realize it’s an around the clock operation for all involved.

Smooth Criminal- The start of the performance which usually see’s Jackson accompanied by a dancer either side with their shadows cast onto white sheets is a little different today. There’s none of that today. It’s basically Jackson standing on the step dancing which is a little pointless but the visual effect hasn’t happened tonight for 1 or 2 reasons or both, It’s broad daylight or it’s a technical hitch. Shame because it’s a big part of Smooth Criminal. Another annoying thing is that somebody’s head pops up in front of the camera for the lean which is a shame because it would have been interesting to see Jackson & Dancer’s take position for the illusion but no doubt it exists on another boot lol. Same standard performance but it’s always good anyway. Vocals are great for ‘You’ve been hit by…..’ & good reaction to exploding Dancer’s.

I Just Can’t Stop Loving You-Keep your eyes open to see Jackson running from the back stage area to the stage. One of Jackson’s security men is talking into a head-set & laughing. Ok performance. Starts strong but overall it’s fairly good.

She’s Out Of My Life-Good vocals. A few of the dancers hang around side stage & chat waiting for their queue. ‘Can I come down there?’. The girl that comes on stage is very relaxed & Jackson holds her hand & spins her around. A security guard walks her back down the steps & the crowd clap. After doing the ’down on one knee cry bit’ Jackson simply gets up & strolls to centre stage as he scratches his head. As he’s walking he’s talking & introduces the J5 Medley & the dancers at the same time arrive on the stage with there mic stands. A crew member places Jackson’s stand on centre stage & runs off. Because it’s daylight you can see how fast & precise everything is done.

J5 Medley- Caught from the jumbo screen I.W.Y.B is fantastic. Some nights as good as it is it’s just better for no apparent reason other than just being so. Everyone on the stands are on their feet. T.L.Y.S is again great. The medley as a whole is a massive crowd pleaser. I.B.T features a great solo from backing singer Darrel. As Darrel is doing his solo spot Jackson goes for a drink & wipes his face with a towel. A crew member runs over the Jackson with another microphone & Jackson test it by singing along just before he comes back onto the main stage from the bands area. Jackson motions the crowd ’Everybody’ & everyone’s hands sway in the air. When Jackson sings ’Just call my name’ he holds the note on ’name’ beautifully. A wardrobe man wait’s side stage with Jackson’s Thriller Jacket for the song to end & his queue to come on.

Thriller-The stage rises tonight & it includes the tombs for the dancers to come out of. The crowd clap along & everyone is standing. Good performance but works much better in the dark especially considering the skeleton puppets are worked by their puppeteers’ dressed from head to toe in black. Same good standard performance.

Billie Jean- Jackson is lowered down on the upper stage as the drum beat starts. Jennifer Batten swings her idol arms around waiting to begin playing lol. There’s some feed-back from Jackson’s mic but it’s a great performance. Good moonwalk but I prefer the 2nd one because the 1st moonwalk was displayed from the screens videoed from the side of the stage. I know it’s filmed like this a lot to show his famous iconic black loafers sliding but I find it a bit pointless as in my opinion it shatters the illusion. (Even Jackson himself said on the Oprah interview ‘you’ve gotta film from the front’) I agree. Jackson picks up his fedora for the solo dance section in the spotlight but it’s so bright it’s not as effective as usual although still effective. Includes all the usual moves except the sideways moonwalk & the vocals just before he throws his hat to the crowd is either weak or the mic is too low.

Black Or White Interlude- I never talk about this because I just see it as the end of the first half of the show & just before the second half which it is lol. But it is a great piece of dance footage but the crowd reaction to it is mild & again it’s that bit more effective when it’s fully dark.

Working Day & Night-The musicians come back on after a cup of tea or a cigarette lol. Strange seeing it in daylight but because the lights are so great it works well. I have a renewed interest in W.D.A.N from watching different bootleg footage of it. Jackson says ’Baby’ around 4:20 but he does that a lot anyways lol. The camera for this one is out of sync with the sound. Two dancers go to the side of the stage for the chair from a crew member. It’s a good angle to see the dancers tacking down the sheet behind the chair & it’s fairly easy to work out how the disappearing illusion is done. Quite simple really.

Beat It- Jackson emerges from the pit on a crane at the front of the stage from the left. Very strong vocals. Great ’HOoooh’s’. Comes back onto the stage. & stands on his toes. Some good footage from the jumbo screen. If only the person who filmed this filmed it entirely from the jumbo screen I would prefer this show to Buckarest. Jennifer Batten doesn’t follow Jackson to stage left for her guitar solo but goes centre stage under a spot light to enhance her Christmas tree costume because it’s a bright. Great solo albeit the same & Jackson stands on his toes. He likes doing that doesn’t he? Jackson wipes his face with towel. Some feed-back during the choreographed section. The crowd clap along & whistle. Superb performance but the part at the end where Jackson jumps & stands alone with outstretched arms bayed in a single white spotlight is usually a powerful iconic vision isn’t achieved like that tonight/today because of the natural light.

Will You Be There-The side walls of the stage display a dog on one side & a bird on the other side dressed as royalty from the Dangerous album cover. The camera in parts is very annoying & shaky. Nothing new or different about the performance but the choreography is visually beautiful & accompanied by the song it’s a very graceful performance. It’s just a shame that the vocals on all the Dangerous tracks are mimed but you simply can’t tell & as a whole it’s a piece of art. From the side stage walls art to the lighting & sound to the dancing & costumes. I can understand why Jackson is reluctant to sing certain songs live. No Angel tonight which is a shame because I think it symbolises what the message of the song is & is the icing on the cake visually. The entire W.Y.B.T production is wonderful. When the music ends Jackson blows a kiss & walks off the stage clutching his hands behind his back with the dancers. The crowd clap after such a beautiful set.

Black Or White-Towards the end of the video footage with Muckly Culkin the crowd start to clap in anticipation. I think from all the songs performed from the Dangerous album B.O.W gets the best reaction. That’s not to say I think it’s the best song from the album but it is a perfect stadium pop anthem with it’s catchy guitar riff. The crowd clap along. Jackson head-bangs & bops around the stage. The Rap from Darell is one of his best ones live. It’s sharp, crisp & clear. It’s a great performance but essentially the same as always. But it’s a song that does give Jackson a chance to freestyle a bit, but with The Dangerous Tour what seems to be a freestyle performance is a loosely choreographed piece which appears to be a freestyle. But what you learn from watching a few Dangerous Concerts is Jackson’s attention to detail & quest for perfection of which grew bigger with the whole Dangerous project has essentially designed a scripted show. This performance on most of the shows is the one that gets the biggest loudest reaction & tonight is no different. The crowd scream & applaud. Jackson bows, waves to the crowd, stands awkwardly, kisses his hand & makes a piece sign & holds up his arm & slowly walks off the stage with his dancers as Jeniffer goes back to her position.

We Are The world Interlude-The crowd cheer as always on the instantly recognisable melody & visuals from children around the world. I’ve always found it very boring & drawn out but I suppose it acts as a chance for Jackson to have a breather after storming 2nd half performance of 4 songs. I can actually understand why he mimed a few songs on this tour because it’s fairly draining watching performances such as W.D.A.N, Beat It, & B.O.W. Even a performance such as Will You Be There obviously takes a lot of energy out of him even though mimed he’s pouring a lot of heart & soul & emotion & restrained energy into it. You also see a beautiful castle tower to the left of the stage with a clock on it. The stadium or grounds surroundings must be really beautiful.

Ballet Interlude-The same beautiful performance & a great intro to Heal The World. The globe rolls to the front of the stage and as Jackson rushes to catch it the crowd cheer.

Heal The World-The same standard version which offers nothing new or different. Crowd clap along, Hands in the air etc… The Stage rises & simultaneously the glob from the lower stage fills with air & rises. It is a visually amazing spectacle though & an incredibly ambitious show given the fact that most nights most things go right when you consider there’s so much that could potentially go wrong. & plenty of things did go wrong on The Dangerous World Tour. Jackson is lowered down on a harness through a trap door to the lower stage, the kids come out, circle the globe & his live vocals are great. ‘I love you’, the crowd clap & Jackson waves & laughs.

Man In The Mirror- The crowd clap in anticipation & when Jackson walks out he gets a massive cheer. He’s entertained tonight & the crowd are hugely appreciative of his passion, commitment, focus & the fact they’ve probably witnessed the greatest show on earth. All clap along & it’s still daylight. I’ve never seen a bad M.I.T.M performance. It embodies a big part of who Jackson is & the lyrics embody part of his ethics & morals as a humanitarian. He’s passion & commitment to it’s live performance has never waned & in my humble opinion was his best ever encore/finale to all tours he’s been on & tonight is no different. ’Make that change’, does a spin & drops to his knees. The live vocal is fantastic & I think he benefited a lot from reserving his voice & miming at least for the 92 1st leg shows. Two spins & drops to his knees again. Jumps up & down a lot. Great add-lbs. ’Go out & tell your mother, tell your sister’ ’Go home & tell your brother’ ’Stand up, stand left your brother’. Karate chops & hooo’s, (This is where this boot finishes so I’ve incorporated the footage from ’The Right Version’ boot to complete the performance). Jackson does 5 spins (although the 1st 2 are slow) & drops to the floor. Although it’s part of the script I’m betting his fairly tired after the show. More karate chops, stuntman rockets off to the right & it was done much better on the edited official version of the Buckarest show. Ladies & Gentlemen. Michael Jackson has left the stadium.
