Can anyone tell me where he learnt to beatbox?

Michael Jackson's inability to play musical instruments led him to beat boxing.

So, he would often record himself beat boxing the rhythms (of songs) on a tape recorder.

Then, producers would come in and they would do the tedious, rest work (i.e., playing his beat boxing with musical instruments).

'Beat It', and 'Black Or White' are just 2 examples of this procedure.

I personally think it's the other way around, that it's his ability to beatbox that led him to not bother with instruments because he felt he didn't need them. (although he actually could play a few instruments, like piano and drums, just not as good as an expert).

It probably came naturally to him, like singing.

some of the earliest traces on him doing that was during ‘blues away’ at 2:20
there was alternative beatboxing on the prerecorded version for the variety show. I can’t seem to find it now though..

sometimes michael’s percussive vocalisations bled into his beatboxing and the two were indistinguishable. his voice really was his instrument.
