often i focus on production more than anything else in a song. i know we all have varied tastes but i'm just wondering which albums or songs (studio, live, remix etc.) made you really notice and admire its production.

a couple early favs:

Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky

(including the whole TDSOTM album)

Minnie Riperton - Inside My Love
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3VS6X_ExoLU
(the build up to and the Rhodes solo there is beautiful)

John Lennon ~ Bless You

George Michael ~ Hard Day (Shep Pettibone Mix)
stand-outs for me. i once read an interview with Shep on one of the Red Bull Music Academy lectures and really got into his sounds. quite the pioneer in Dance. cheers for that track, never heard it before.

here's a classic for synths and any Moog lover

Isley Bros - For The Love Of You

Chris Jasper's keyboarding is beautiful, though i've never gotten into his solo stuff.

Re: Best produced albums/songs

for me it would be the beatles (.showing my age now) and cant choose which stood out because they were all good

Re: Best produced albums/songs

^ Abbey Road has cultivated so many classics over the years. and George Martin and his son are still at it...

^ you from Malaysia, mate?

Sade ~ Stronger Than Pride

(skip the first crappy minute)

still love the original more though, i have to say lol

O, I see. I see. I was about to ask you how you guessed.

There's this group called Stellamara from I don't remember where (I have to re-check) but they produced a song called Szerelem. It's enchanting. It's not on youtube or esnipes though. I will continue to seek for it.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, utopia, sans-serif][FONT=Verdana, Arial, utopia, sans-serif]At its core is vocalist/producer Sonja Drakulich and multi- instrumentalist Gari Hegedus. Their music incorporates medieval European, Persian, Arabic, Indian, Turkish and Balkan with subtle electronic textures. The result is a sublime new level of mystery, beauty and depth.

but this is some of the best Orient-inspired music i've heard - i'm into traditional Middle-Eastern tunes (mainly Fairouz) and have been building it up with fusions of modern stuff inspired by the old (the Spaniards do this really well especially in Andalucia because of it's Arab inspired background).

this is great, i'll be looking into them.

speaking of fusions:

Memorias Perdidas - Ojos De Brujo

^Ah of course, imeem. Thanks.

You are into Middle-eastern music, good because I do too. I'm into world music. So many beautiful music out there.

Amadou et Mariam - Dimanche à Bamako (remix)

This is my official workout anthem song.

Amadou and Mariam are a musical duo from Mali, composed of the couple Mariam Doumbia (vocals) (born in Mali's capital Bamako 15 April 1958) and Amadou Bagayoko (guitar and vocals) (born in Bamako 24 October 1954). The pair, known as "the blind couple from Mali" met at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind, and found they shared an interest in music.

Actually arXter I have a collection of international music in my vault. Would you like me to share them in this thread or perhaps open a new thread for world music?

oh definitely, i'm really into Andalucian flamenco music and especially world fusions like the group you mentioned above.

i listen to Japanese urban pop sometimes, but that's more like a copy of Western soul/funk music.

Amadou et Mariam - Dimanche à Bamako (remix)
haha this isn't my style of music - i can't really workout or run listening to music - unless there's one longass song that has the same beat throughout, i lose my rhythm.

deserves its own thread, i'd like to explore more cheers.

one of the best produced albums imo is The Open Door by Evanescence. I always find something new about the songs. It's TOP NOTCH! :)

I think those old 5th Dimension records from the 1960s had nice production.

Don Davis, who produced a lot of Johnnie Taylor's 1970's music, is pretty good.

"Voodoo" from D'Angelo is the best produced album of the past ten years.. Listen to it, and you'll know what I mean..

Repping you for that. It's the best album from the noughties, full stop.

Along with Like Water For Chocolate, it really is the magnum opus of the Soulquarians.

Nice thread. Some of my favorite productions.

The entire 'Extension of a Man' album is brilliantly produced.

Voodoo is so UNDERRATED..it is one of the best R&B albums that I have heard..along with Brown Sugar..D'Angelo is the man!!
