(24-5-2011) Guitar legend Eddie Van Halen recently donated his famous ax to the National Museum of American History and he talked to the Smithsonian Magazine about his decision to donate his cherished guitar.

During the interview, when asked if any of his many collaborations over the years stood out as being his favorite, Van Halen answered,

Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” is a stand out for me. Quincy Jones called me up and asked me to play on it. When I got there it took me 15 minutes to rearrange the song and I played 2 solos and told them they could pick the one they liked best. Then Michael walked in and said, 'Wow! I really like that high fast stuff you do.' It was a lot of fun to do. Its crazy that something could take such a short amount of time and can grow into something beyond anything you could ever imagine."

Very cool read, thank you very much for posting. My little brother and I were just practicing the "Beat It" dance just a few hours ago, haha! :D

Cool, I love the recognition :D
Maybe it's just me being a hardcore fan but the only thing I don't like is the image of MJ he portrayed here.
It makes him look like Mike just walked one day in the studio and didn't do the song. Beat it was MJ's "surprise" song, his rock song.
But I love Eddie, it's really nice of him :)

thanks.

Eddie joined Michael on stage once right? - Would be great to have in HQ.
