Friend to Me

When Rodney Jerkins first did the beat, I was in the studio with him, five years ago at the Boom Boom Room, Will Smith's studio. I wanted to do a song like Human Nature, so really Friend to Me has uncle Michael's energy all through it.

When we were putting the record together back at Rodney's studio, Darkchild, I was thinking about the situation a friend of mine had gotten himself into. It's one of those situations that you see every day. It's about a guy who's cheating on his girlfriend, and she knows it, but he keeps on flipping the script on her. Every time she gets mad at him, he turns it round and gets mad back at her. He gets himself so deep into the situation that now he can't even break down and tell his girlfriend the truth. Deep down she's the one he loves deeply, so he tries to make light of the situation he's in with his other girl. At the end of the day he doesn't want to let go of either of them. He's saying, "I'm going to have my cake and eat it too, I'm going to tell the lie

No offense to young buck, BUT he needs to stay far, FAR away from anything related to "Uncle Michael."

I know that's his very famous uncle, yada, yada, yada, but until he is firmly entranched in the music business I, myself, would go in a totally different, totally NEW direction.

No song "like" Human Nature need apply. LOL!

**face palm**

I guess he won't follow the same advice uncle MJ gave to Donny Osmond.

No one can ever compete with mj so the worst thing anyone can do is to try and be like him. u have to find your own path even more so when u are related to him. because u will always be compaired and theres only one winner where that is concerned.and i guess thats why austins been trying for years to make it and never does

well , why doesnt he talk about his famous aunt Janet?

Didn't Rebbie say something years ago about her kids being teased because of their uncle Mike and how they were embarrassed or something? if that's the case why is Austin 'using' his uncle Michael? he is singing like him, using Rodney Jerkins as his producer and even dancing like him.. Just so fake to me!

^ Yeah, in an interview after mj was facing total ruin when he was arrested for the arvizo case. Rebbie when asked how her little brother was doing, said her main concern was for the rest of the family as it wasn't just mj who was being targetted. She said her son, austin, had been teased since '93 because of mj and called 'a child m&lestor like his uncle' and taken out of school. Therefore it's nice that austin, years later, seems to be proud to say mj is his uncle and doesn't harbour the negative feelings towards mj for the false allegations that his mother appeared to have.

Can we please stop EVERY thread turning into the bashing of the Jacksons. This is about Austin's music, not how much everyone seems to dislike Rebbie or whatever. Austin was just a kid when the allegations broke and yet you're judging him for the trauma he went through at school being BULLIED over his uncle?

He should do his own stuff, without playing the Michael card all the time. It's really annoying.

Well, that is his uncle and the biggest star in the world, so of course he wants to channel Michael's energy. Channeling Michael is fine as long as he put a bit of himself into the music. It isn't like you can't become popular by copying Michael.

The problem with Austin is that his music tends to be quite bland, regardless of who he is copying. I don't know, but all his stuff sounds like generic R&B to me.

ITA..there is nothing distinctive about Austin's work. He really needs the right producer and even more importantly the right song. Ceelo, despite previous successes, became world known because of "Forget You". Bruno Mars had a contract with a major label for years, but he didn't become a major success until his recent catchy songs.

I think Austin can make it as big as many currently out there. He certainly has the charisma and some other pluses going for him.

It wouldnt bug me so much if he talked about being inspired by his uncle.
I agree on his music though; it doesnt have anything special. The kind of summer hit you forget as soon as the vacation's over.

No one's judging austin. Jaydom just mentioned that she thought she heard austin felt embarrassed about mj and was rightly wondering why he wd now be mentioning him when putting out his music - i was posting to point out that it wasn't austin but his mother who clailmed in a tv interview that her children were being teased and targetted because mj was their uncle. As far as i know, austin has never spoken of feeling any 'trauma' over his relationship with mj.
