When Michael Jackson hired Kenny Ortega to direct and help create his “This Is It” tour, he was extending a working relationship that dated back to 1992 and covered two other Jackson tours. Ortega, who had achieved a great deal of success as a movie director through the “High School Musical” series, was happy to go back to work with his old friend, and he talked to us about how Jackson had matured over the years and became a more trusting collaborator. Ortega’s movie based on the concert preparations, “This Is It,” is playing nationwide.
