the best damn female vocalist ever.

I love Aretha. I always think that it is such a shame that the music industry has changed so much now thsat we will never have another Aretha cause they wouldn't fit the citeria for todays celebs. Aretha was never tv friendly, but she had the talent and she delivered.:D

The Queen of Soul! Aretha is definitely one of the greatest singers that ever lived. My fave songs of hers is "Spanish Harlem" and "A Natural Woman".

Love her! I love the song she did a few years back called 'A rose' I think! I also love her classic stuff especially the famous R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

She plays the piano very well.

Oh I love love love Aretha

Just got her Jewels in the crown Album ^_^

duets with the likes of George Michael, Elton John, Whitney, Mary J Blige, Frank Sinatra and Annie Lennox ^_^

Hey, Jennifer Hudson's the new Aretha.

:D

A lot of her Columbia material is good, but it tends to be overlooked.

This is one of my favorites from 1981

Love All The Hurt Away (with George Benson)

^^^^^I remember that, it's cool, but I liked the Martha Wash version better. There was a real video to Aretha's version though. I guess no one uploaded it.

the best Box set that I own period. you name the style and Aretha can cover it. for me her peak and prime was 67-76. she was on fire back in the day.tight on the piano and can sing/sang the gospel. i was hit and miss with the columbia records stuff. but when she found her groove there was no stoppin her. my last Aretha knock out jam was the Luther Vandross Produced "Jump to it". I can take or leave the arista records era stuff.

I read somewhere that Luther got the big head when he was producing Aretha and they fell out for awhile.

More than 40 years ago, Aretha Franklin recorded her Grammy-award-winning live album Amazing Grace, which remains to this day her best-selling LP. Late director Sydney Pollack also filmed the 1972 concert where it was recorded, and now, after spending decades seemingly lost to history, the footage has finally been made into a documentary.

The concert was filmed at the New Temple Missionary Church in Los Angeles with a few cameramen, capturing the energy, the ’70s garb, and Mick Jagger rocking out to Franklin’s powerhouse pipes. (You can spot Jagger—a huge Franklin fan who signed with Atlantic Records in part because they had the Queen of Soul—at 1:57.) Amazing Grace will premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but whether it will get a commercial release is still up in the air.

Happy 75th birthday Queen of Soul....

3-25-42 :flowers:

Thanks for bumping this thread up. I tried but couldn't find it.
I just copied my post from the "Listening to" thread.
But I was able to find Ms. Ross' thread tho.
I wonder if she, Ms.Ross and Ms. Khan ever get together to celebrate their birthdays together. :)

Nicki Minaj just broke one of Aretha's records and I was annoyed by it for some reason.
Current artists/entertainers have surpassed Michael's records and I don't even get annoyed, but Nicki breaking one of Aretha's records truly bothered me for some reason, I'm not sure why tho.

Aretha Franklin gravely ill, 'resting and surrounded by family and friends'

Prayers and well-wishes are pouring in for Aretha Franklin, as the Queen of Soul is gravely ill, according to her family.

Franklin is resting and surrounded by friends and family members, according to those close to her. All day, Local 4 has been monitoring how she's doing. That includes Evrod Cassimy, who has been in constant contact with Franklin's loved ones.

Evrod spoke with Franklin on the phone Monday, and she is asking for prayers.

Franklin's health has kept her out of the public eye, but not out of headlines. In December, she was forced to cancel an appearance at her annual Christmas party in Detroit, apologizing for being ill.

The last time she performed in Detroit was June of last year, during a special concert tribute to her. She was on stage mouthing the words, "Pray for me," as she stood before the audience.

"I fell very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now," Franklin previously told Local 4. "I'll be pretty much satisfied, but I'm not going to go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing. That wouldn't be good, either."

Last February, Franklin confirmed she was officially retiring from performing at the end of the year. Her goal was to release an album by September 2017. That didn't happen, but she did perform in November for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York.

Franklin has won 18 Grammy awards and dozens of others in her lengthy career.

Blues Brothers was on TV last night. I watched it for Aretha.

One of the best voices ever.

Stevie Wonder visited an ailing Aretha Franklin at her home in Detroit on Tuesday.Franklin's publicist Gwendolyn Quinn told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Franklin's ex-husband, actor Glynn Turman, also visited the Queen of Soul, who is seriously ill.

A person close to Franklin, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person was not allowed to publicly talk about the topic, told the AP on Monday that the singer is ill. No more details were provided.

Franklin canceled planned concerts earlier this year after she was ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest up. The 76-year-old announced plans to retire last year, saying she would perform at "some select things."
