Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, and Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were honored this week at a packed awards gala and benefit concert at the Apollo Theater in New York, Billboard.com reports.
Jamie Foxx hosted the Apollo's Spring 2010 Benefit Concert and Awards Ceremony on Monday night. Danny Glover introduced Franklin, who was inducted into the theater's hall of fame. After tribute performances by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings ("Respect" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman") and Estelle ("Day Dreaming"), the Queen of Soul herself gave a brief, surprise rendition of "Rock Steady," accompanied by Glover and Foxx.
Foxx, who Billboard said "hosted with humor and sincerity," introduced Jackson's posthumous induction. Floetry member Marsha Ambrosius followed with a performance of "Butterflies," which she wrote for the late King of Pop.
"Rush Hour" star Chris Tucker accepted the honor on behalf of Jackson's family and children. Then Donnie McClurkin led "emotional renditions" of "Heal the World" and "Earth Song," backed by a gospel choir, Billboard said. Lopez and Anthony received the Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian award for their fundraising efforts through their Maribel Foundation, which benefits health care for children. Lopez reportedly was inspired to start the foundation by a real-life health scare involving the couple's then-3-week-old daughter, Emme. Little Emme turned out to be fine after her parents discovered a lump on her forehead, but only after a series of costly medical tests.

Video game company Ubisoft said Monday it is producing a new dance-centered video game featuring Michael Jackson, according to reports.
In the still-untitled game, players earn points by mimicking Jackson dance moves to some of his best-known songs. Ubisoft has a deal with the Jackson estate to include songs such as "Beat It" and "Billie Jean."
"The game isn't 'redo the video,' " Ubisoft marketing executive Tony Key said in the Wall Street Journal. "If you already know how to moonwalk, you'll do well. If you don't, you'll learn."
The game will be released on all three major game platforms, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, as well as for the PSP and Nintendo DS. It will be released later this year, possibly to coincide with the expected release of an album of unreleased Jackson material in November, the Los Angeles Times said.
Jackson previously appeared in the Sega video game "Moonwalker," based on the 1988 film, in which users could play as Jackson as he used his famous dance moves to defeat enemies and rescue children.
