Fall Out Boy Give Their Fans The White Glove Treatment
...Fall Out Boy's clip for their cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" does in fact pay homage to old videos by The Gloved One, with Patrick Stump even getting his own "Dirty Diana" moment near the song's end. But while watching the video, in which the boys from the band walk around a seedy neighborhood that is populated solely with Michael Jackson-costumed dudes and watch Tony Hale lead a class in the "sexy" martial arts before getting roped into a throwdown...

"Hey quiet down!" yelled an enthusiastic Wall Streeter to his peers. "This is American History here!" The man was standing on the outdoor patio at P.J. Clarke’s, and the historic event to which he referred was a 25th-anniversary screening of a music-video classic, Michael Jackson’s "Thriller," which took place at World Financial Center Plaza in Battery Park last Thursday.
  • As the opening salvo in the Tribeca Film Festival’s Drive-In series, the full music video for "Thriller"—all 13-plus minutes of it—was presented by director John Landis, whose vision for Michael Jackson’s hit single forever changed the way artists approached this medium. Tribeca made the night a loose, family-friendly occasion with perks like free popcorn, face painting and dancers from Bravo’s Step It Up and Dance. Once the sun had set, the groundbreaking video, now a quarter century old, screened in the pleasantly cool open air, in front of boisterous fans of all ages. It was followed by a short making-of documentary, featuring interviews with Jackson, Landis, music producer Quincy Jones and a number of fans. Throughout the brief video docket, all eyes were glued to the inflatable screen, still entranced by one of history’s greatest pop stars in his prime.

What has been your most memorable or inspirational gig and why?
I remember when I was a kid we went to see Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5’s Victory tour. Yeah, there was quite a hysteria going on in Atlanta, Georgia. My mother took us out to the airport and allowed us to see Michael and the rest of the brothers standing on top of what was then Hartsfield Airport, and y’know, that was pretty good; I’ll never forget that.

Thanks for posting the news, you guys.

Man, I should have went to the Tribeca Film Festival. It looked like fun.
