i'm a huge Bobby Womack fan. dude is scary versatile as a Guitar player, songwriter and all around Musician. was a Protege of Sam cooke's and you can hear sam's influence on him. Bobby Womack is like the link between Sam cooke and R.Kelly IMO. Womack had that gut bucket brand of Soul with other ingrediants thrown in as well. a Soulful Giant that is so Underrated IMO.

I bet y'all if I told some of you my age or younger that Mariah gave him props on "We Belong Together", you wanna heart about him:

"I can't sleep at night/when you're all on my mind/Bobby Womack's on the radio/Saying to me: 'if you think you're lonely now'" ;)

Bobby Womack's songs give me chills. I dunno it's something about his stuff that is so passionate and true.

My favs:

Harry Hippy
Across 110th Street
and Woman's Gotta Have It

A lot of the older folks would play him when I was little, but I never really liked him. I remember he would talk the whole song and then sing a couple of lines at the end, lol. His brother married Sam Cooke's daughter Linda (I think she changed her name to some Afrocentric name now) and performed as Womack and Womack.

I did kinda like some of Clarence Carter's stuff. And Barry White would talk a lot and I liked him. I just didn't like Bobby's stuff. There was one song maybe, but I don't know the name of it. I hear it on the oldies station sometimes.

Which one?
"Looking for a Love"?

I can't really think of a song where most of it is talking...except Harry Hippy where it starts off like..."everybody claaaimms they want the best things out of life...." LOL But he like talks one line and semi-sings the next one...and then talks the next one...which is kinda cool :p

He's more of a testifier like Solomon Burke and Joe Tex. Isaac Hayes and Millie Jackson basically "rapped" to you, which is a difference. I dig both styles. But Isaac talks too much sometimes especially during "I Stand Accused" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" but they're both beautiful songs. :)
