it was called 'Press Your Luck'. and i have a feeling the contestants hoped they'd hit a whammy instead of getting big bucks, because it meant that they would be entertained by this:

I remember watching the old reruns of that game show on the Game Show Network. And I just totally L.O.V.E. how the Whammys were back then. The Billie Jean Whammy is my absolute favorite. Because this game show was shown during Michael Jackson mania. Which I sadly only remember very little of it. And I also miss the 80s as well.
