The Eighties is perhaps the only decade that still has a lingering influence in the music and fashion of today’s generation. Inspired by artists like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Boy George, and the movie Flashdance, and characterized by extreme, fearless statements, the extravagant style epitomizes the flamboyance of the era and defined a generation preoccupied with excess. Shoulder pads, mini-skirts, leg warmers and headbands were the look du jour. Leather pants, fingerless gloves and the Thriller look were considered trendy. Hair styles were big and eccentric and frizzy, bangs and mullet style became popular. Aquanet is the top must-have, along with Ray-bans, shoulder length earrings and long string of beads.

Madonna has received plenty of attention this month for, among other things, turning 50. * Yet she hardly stands alone among celebrities hitting the half-century mark this year. * She isn't even the only one this month: On Friday, Michael Jackson will celebrate 50 action-packed years. * See whether you know who else has turned 50 this year, who is younger and who is beyond "over the hill."
