Kanye West show a barren landscape

SCI-FI CONCEPT DID LITTLE TO SHOWCASE SINGER'S STAR QUALITIES
By Shay Quillen
Mercury News
Article Launched: 04/21/2008 01:33:11 AM PDT

Towering alone above the crowd, West had no one to interact with but a disembodied female robot voice - no musicians, no dancers, no posse.
Perhaps a singer-dancer like Michael Jackson or Usher could have pulled it off, but West is no stirring crooner or smooth moon-walker.

Elliot Minor land top ten album slot
By Press reporter
Rock band Elliot Minor have created a slice of music history for the city after their self-titled debut album shot into the charts at number six.
Their ranking in the BBC Radio 1 official album chart, revealed yesterday evening, is the highest-ever placing for an LP by a York group, outstripping the eighth spot Shed Seven's A Maximum High achieved 12 years ago.
It means the quintet of former York Minster choristers and public schoolboys - Alex Davies, Ed Minton, Ali Paul and Dan and Teddy Hetherton - will see their album sitting above the likes of Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, REM and Amy Winehouse in the charts for at least a week.

Nowitzki tries out hyperbaric chamber

When the most famous spokesman for your industry is the likes of Michael Jackson, you've got public relations issues. For the record: Dirk Nowitzki never actually slept in a hyperbaric chamber, either with or without a monkey.
He did, however, catch a few movies in one.
"He watched Elf," said Trey Andrews, manager of Hyperbaric Centers of Texas in Richardson. "He was in there laughing like crazy."
A sense of humor in the face of such claustrophobic prospects is no small feat, either.
Especially when you're 7 feet tall, and the chamber goes maybe 7-2.
Good thing the patient wasn't Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, huh, doctor?
"We'd just bend his knees," Al Johnson said, smiling.

Around the World With Akram Khan

Dance

By VALERIE GLADSTONE
April 21, 2008

Though Mr. Khan does not dance in "Bahok," he informs the piece with his own meditations on home. "It came out of my realizing," he said, "that I don't have a home. My body is my only home, the source of my memories and senses. Because of my background, I carry home with me." Mr. Khan grew up in London immersed in kathak, the Indian classical dance characterized by rapid footwork and fast, whirling turns. At age 14, he won a role in Peter Brook's famed version of the epic "Mahabharata." In spare moments, he learned to emulate Michael Jackson's slinky moves by watching "Thriller" and then in college got caught up in Western modern choreographers such as Martha Graham.

J.K. Rowling special set at '20/20'

By Kimberly Nordyke
April 20, 2008
Following the success of last month's "20/20" installment on the U.K.'s royal family, RDF and ABC News will collaborate again on another special edition of the show -- this time a behind-the-scenes look at the life of J.K. Rowling.

IWC Media, part of the RDF Media Group, filmed the "Harry Potter" author for more than a year for an in-depth profile that includes several interviews, the book tour for the final installment, a tour of locations that provided inspiration for her characters and even a hint to what the future holds for Harry and his friends. It will air on ABC in November.

Broadcast on the U.K.'s ITV1 in December, the program drew 4.4 million viewers. RDF Rights is distributing internationally.

"Her books have touched and inspired both children and adults worldwide," said Chris Coelen, CEO of RDF USA. "I think everyone is curious to know where she came from and what moments and places inspired the incredible characters and the magical world they live in."

"The Royal Family," which aired March 3, averaged 14.1 million total viewers, making it the most-watched episode of "20/20" since the February 2003 report on Michael Jackson.

Perfumer to the Pope?

Pope Benedict XVI is being showered with all sorts of gifts during his first visit to the United States. When he arrived in New York late last week, awaiting him was a rather unusual package: an exclusive personal scent from the House of Creed.
Sixth-generation master perfumer Olivier Creed tweaked the original 1933 scent Angelique Encens (which means "angelic incense"), enhancing the incense and amber notes to evoke the aroma of "a fine church." The infused blend was hand-poured into an 8.4-ounce green glass bottle, plugged with a cut-glass stopper, crowned with white leather, tied with a silver cord and delivered Thursday, along with a personal note, to the pontiff's New York address, the residence of the papal nuncio to the United States.
If the 81-year-old pope likes the fragrance, he'll join an impressive list of Creed aficionados and affluent clients over the past 248 years that includes King George III, Queen Victoria, Napoleon III, Winston Churchill, Princess Grace of Monaco, Eva Peron, Jackie Kennedy, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Current celebrities who have expressed an affinity for a particular Creed scent range from Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Madonna to George Clooney, David Beckham and Michael Jackson.

Find out all the FAQ here: Ask Us Reputation Query Thread

Here's some more information incase you're curious:

credit goes to chichi for this:
it also depends on who has given the points, we all have a different rep power

Your Reputation Power is the number of points you give when you rep someone else, and is calculated as follows ;

Your Green (positive) Reputation Power is ;
.
  • One point for every 1000 posts you have made.
  • One point for every 250 points of reputation you have.
  • One point for each 365 days you have been a member.
Your Red (negative) repping power is half of your green repping power.

For a rep to count you must have at least 10 points, and have made at least 1 post. Non counting reps are displayed as Grey.

You can give a maximum of 20 reputation "hits" per 24 hour period, and must rep at least five different people before you can rep the same person again (Administrators are exempt from these two limits).

A number of green & golden pips are used to show other users your reputation level. The first five pips are dull green, the next five are bright green, then you can have up to 10 golden pips (after that is currently a secret).

Each pip in it's colour group has a set value.

Yeah, Or have a members birthday thread that gets updated every Monday? then people can give their wishes in that thread instead of in a news thread? just a suggestion :)

Edit: Now come to think of it, I'm sure they had something like that on MJJF?

Fall Out Boy Say Their 'Beat It' Clip Is Like All Of Michael Jackson's Videos 'But On A Fall Out Boy Budget'

'I don't know what our budget is, but I know it does not include enough to get him here,' Pete Wentz says of rumored MJ cameo.

By James Montgomery, with reporting by Yasmine Richard

Security was Fort-Knox-tight on the set of Fall Out Boy's new video — for their cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" — and not just because of the whole "Is Pete Wentz a daddy-to-be?" drama that's been following the band for a week now.

No, the reason we're not allowed to actually show you anything from the shoot is because the guys in FOB are rather worried that you'll make fun of the clothes they've been forced to wear by director Shane C. Drake — which could generously be described as "Poison-meets-Spandau Ballet/ NKOTB," only w-a-a-y more embarrassing.

"Shane described the treatment to me, and I didn't get it at all. I mean, it's cool, it's awesome, and I trust his vision, but it all sounded very strange to me, so I don't really know what I'm doing half the time, hence the reason I got talked into wearing this," Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump laughed, pulling at his tattered acid-washed jeans and varsity jacket. "I think we're shooting for 1984, but it looks as though 1988 exploded all over me. I mean, these clothes are totally not strange at all, and they're very comfortable. And they look great on me."

"My costume is this take on one of the guys from Michael Jackson's original 'Beat It' video, like, the guy who plays the rival dancer," bassist Wentz added. "He's in this yacht gear/ dance-gang-fight-gear-attire get-up. Which is amazing. I look pretty good."

Take our word for it: The costumes are pretty epic. And aside from the fashion, here's what else we can tell you about the "Beat It" video: It's less of a remake of MJ's original clip as it is an homage to the Gloved One's entire oeuvre, with cameos aplenty. In fact, while we were on set, we witnessed FOB wandering a Chinatown alleyway, only to stumble onto a karate class/ impromptu-dance session being taught by Tony Hale, who most (OK, most with taste) know from his role as Buster Bluth on the late, lamented "Arrested Development."

Seriously.
"I think when you're doing a Michael Jackson cover, there's this expectation that you're going to do one of his videos verbatim," Stump said. "What we decided to do was kind of inspired by Michael Jackson and the mythology of him. There are specific images that are reference points for us, but at any given point, it's not any of his videos. It's kind of all of his videos, all at once, but on a Fall Out Boy budget, so it's not quite as fancy."

"If there were all these places where MJ can make his comeback, I would suggest this video," Wentz laughed. "He should really let the world know he's still around. I don't know what our budget is, but I know it does not include enough to get him here. Multiple calls were not returned. I don't think Michael Jackson has a number."

And even though the budget is a tad bit low by MJ standards, Fall Out Boy promise that fans can still look forward to a spectacle worthy of the King of Pop, which means elaborate costuming, exotic locales and, of course, lots and lots of dancing ... just not a whole lot of if being done by anyone actually in Fall Out Boy.

"There's not too much dancing coming from us. I think other members of the band may be doing some dancing, but I don't dance. Gangsters kinda boogie, you know what I'm saying?" Wentz said. "I think trying to emulate Michael Jackson is funny. You can't do it that well. If you try and do it, it's kind of a bummer. Chris Brown pulls it off very well, I've seen some Japanese people who can bring it around ... I personally can't, so I won't go and embarrass myself or anyone else."

The Michael Jackson Scholarship

Michael Jackson established a scholarship on United Negro College Fund back in 1988.

However we did't hear that much about this, the scholarship still exists!

Above You can see an application that the students should send to UNCF in order to participate in the program.

UNCF held it's last "Michael Jackson Scholarship Party" on June, 2007.
