I´ve read in some old books my grandfather had.
Before 11:00 they were in the shooter graves shooting at each other as usual, but at 11:00 they stopped and went up from the shooter graves.
No weapons.
American soldiers gave cigarettes to German soldiers, the German soldiers were surprised that some of the americans spoke german too.
They were soldiers not enemies.
They had been living in a hell but it was the same for both allies and Germans.
Another touching story
There was a German soldier badly wounded in no mans land.
If other Germans had tried to reach him they had been shot too.
The man was screaming in pain.
Then the allies put up a white flag and an Englishman went up from the shooter grave.
Germans didn´t shoot.
The Englishman went-with the white flag- to the wounded German, carried him to the Germans
No shooting.
When the Englishman was back in his shootergrave, then they started to shoot at each other again.
