The latest addition to the graffiti-covered alley on Liberty Street near the Michigan Theater - known to some as Tripper's alley, bubble gum alley, or the alley where that one guy dances to Michael Jackson - is arguably the least creative to date.

Singin' in the Rain. I like older movies, it's the stuff I grew up on. I'm the youngest of 5 kids, my parents own an restaurant and while they were at the restaurant we'd throw on these VHS tapes of Singin' in the Rain, West Side Story. We'd also watch all the Michael Jackson stuff, modern musicals like "Black or White", which premiered after "The Simpsons" on Sunday night. We'd record it, and then for days we'd watch it over and over to learn those moves.

The quote-alongs became singalongs by default when the Drafthouse began showing musicals. When Michael Jackson's "Moonwalker" was suggested, Mazza came up with the idea to screen nothing but Michael Jackson music videos for a couple of hours.

I Wanted To Be The First Indian Female Rapper
I was a dancer, originally. When we moved to the UK from India in 1991, I did not even know how to speak good English. So I was bullied a lot in school. Being a dancer, I was into music as well. I grew up with music like ghazals, qawwalis and Bollywood music. All I knew about Western music was Michael Jackson and Madonna.

SoBe made a Super Bowl ad splash with Naomi Campbell and lizards dancing to Michael Jackson's Thriller. The Pepsi brand now will air a knockoff with them dancing to Santana's Black Magic Woman— sans Carlos Santana. SoBe licensed just the song for its own version. The estimated $2.5 million for the real Thriller must have busted the budget. Faux Santana cost about $500,000.
