I love the 1995 VMA performance hair. As I'm in high school and I can't have my hair longer than that I'll go for that look (but I don't have curls unfortunately haha). I think that one is his best short hair.
 
I always thought in pic 1 that his hair was just tied back.

My guess would be wig. If not full head wig then he's had hair added in to bolster what he had.

Whenever MJ has that strong hairline around his forehead and no obvious combover then you know something is up. Between Thriller and Dangerous that gap in his hairline got bigger and bigger and then one day it just disappeared.
 
^ I think that person that made that is simply going off of "curly" means his and straight means wig.. Even said the curls in 2009 were real with extensions to make it full.. which we know was not the case... I will say the roots in the front In 95 VMA looks authentic, but wasn't it that area that was burned incapable of growing hair? maybe attachement on top. IDK! now I want to examine pics lol

^^What are you talking about? Gap in hairline?

The VMAs short curly hair looked real to me. It was super cute.
 
Generally speaking a 3rd degree burn in that area would prevent hair from growing at least in it's fullest potential. IF that were the case for Michael he'd have to cover that area with something if his natural hair is really exposed!

Well, that's why he had that atrocious balloon operation before Dangerous Tour so his hair would grow back. The burn was on the back of his head. You can see it vividly in the Pepsi fire footage.

I saw a website once that showed MJ's hair through the years and you can see this area of his hairline getting bigger, it was good for comparison. I'll have a look now.

Ignore the editorial added by the user and just look at the images included. Michael appeared to have this area of his head near to the temple(s) where his hair was lighter, thinner or receding. No matter what style MJ went with you could usually find it, from Thriller days onwards. I often thought he styled his hair that way intentionally but it was so common for so many years, and indeed around Dangerous looked more obvious than it ever had (as if it was worsening with age) and then it completely disappeared. If there are ANY images of MJ from 1995 onwards that show that faded hairline I'd be surprised - indeed there can't be many if there are any.

I'd be willing to assume from 2000 onwards MJ elected to wear only full head wigs, and I think from 1995-1998 he was mostly bolstering what he had with hair pieces, extensions etc.

A FURTHER EDIT: It would appear you can see that area I speak of in the HIStory tour pics.

I really don't like threads where people talk about whether Michael wore a wig or hairpiece. It's disrespectful, IMO. There is no way in hell that people would do that to Janet and talk about her wigs, weaves, etc. Why the double standards ALWAYS when it comes to Michael, especially on an MJ site. Janet fans would never do that to het. In fact, they act as if her weaves are her natural hair, when it's obvious, it is not. Stop disrespecting Michael's privacy!
