Little things that make my heart smile

The other day I was waiting for a tram when a man came to me asking me to give money to a charity. I'm usually not interested in these street charities and prefer to donate to the well known organizations. But this man, who was selling small dolls, seemed different. I was very impatient with him at first as I didn't want to donate and I was in a hurry. But the way he was all into it, smiling, relaxed - he really seemed like he put his heart into what he was doing and that he believed in it. So I stopped for a while (meanwhile the tram I was waiting for came, but I didn't care) and he explained that they were doing a laughter therapy for long-term ill children. A bunch of clowns coming into a hospital, making children smile. It seemed like a good idea to me so I bought the doll he was offering and walked away. But I couldn't get it out of my mind even after several days and I started to regret I was that impatient with him.
All of us know that there are bigger problems in the world - lack of water, hunger, poor education etc. But then you realize that these small things matter as much as the "big" ones, and what more - every one of us can do it. TO MAKE SICK CHILDREN SMILE - so simple and easy to do, yet so wonderful and meaningful... People like these make me realize, that we all can make the world a better place if we only try.

...from their web (Chance 4 Children - Dr. Clown: http://www.c4c.cz/en/programs.php?id=38):

"Laughter is the cheapest and most efficient wonder-drug, a universal medicine."
(Bertrand Russel)

"Caring for your neighbour not only makes for a better day, but also a better world."
(Dr. Patch Adams)
