One day you take that brave step
to be no longer ignored but bejubeld.
These are the MJ Facts that
will thrill your socks off.
Ready, Set, Enjoy!

~ "The girl is mine" ~
We hit off our adventure on that wonderful day in March 1982
when MJ teamed up with Paul Mc Cartney to record
"The girl is mine" in a seclusive L.A. Studio.

When August came along there was enough material and Magic to
start recording "Thriller" the NEXT album that MJ vowed
would NOT be ignored this time.

After months of recording and creating a record to the TEE,
The 1st Single "The girl is mine" is released on October 29, 1982.
It enters the Pop Singles Chart at N°2 and
remains there for 18 weeks.
This single hits the N° 1 spot in the Black Singles Chart
where it stays for 3 weeks.

"The girl is mine" was the 1st single released in Israël
since 1977. It was issued on a coloured vinyl including
a yellow and orange one.

This song has a 'special' meaning for me as it was the
very first song I heard of MJ blasting through our radio.
I loved the soulful sweet voice of that man and as
I looked up his name, a 'familiar' like feeling rushed through me.
I was so 'intrigued' by his voice.

"The girl is mine" is certified GOLD.

So when December of 1982 slipped in,
Thriller, THE album, was let loose on the world.
It was originally called "Starlight" but I like "Thriller".

It broke every possible record and is named as
'THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ALBUM OF ALL TIME'.
It sold a whopping 110 Million Copies and
12 Million Singles.

It generated 7 HIT singles including 4 'solely' written by MJ.
Thriller went on to win 8 American Music Awards and
8 Grammy's on ONE beautiful night.

Thriller (LP) hits the N° 1 spot in the Top 100 Albums and
dominates it for a good 8 weeks.
The record also hits the N° 1 position on both
the Black and Pop Singles Charts and remains there
for a massive 37 weeks or a good 9 months.

When 1983 opens its doors,
the 2nd single of Thriller hits the airwaves.
~ "Billie Jean" ~

Released in January of 1983
was orginally called "Not my lover"
as it hits the British Gallup Top 100 Singles at N° 47.
The costs of the video reached over a quarter of a Million $
Directed by Steve Barron.

It does hit the N° 1 on the Black Singles Charts and
holds its position for 9 weeks there.
The song with the most catchy 'toe tapping' sound
also hits the N° 1 spot on the Pop Singles Charts and
firmly hold its ground for about 7 weeks.

"Billie Jean" is added to the MTV playlist which was
a MAJOR breakthrough for a Black artist as previous songs
were just ignored. "Beat it" later gets a spot too on MTV.
On April 14, 1983 "Billie Jean" is certified GOLD.

Earlier that year in February 1983...
~ "Beat it" ~

was released as it hits the N° 1 spot on the Black Singles charts
but only remains there for ONE week only.
The pop song with a 'rock edge' to it does hit the N° 1 spot
on the Pop Singles charts and 'rocks' there for a good 3 weeks.

On a warm spring day in March MJ begins filming the video
on Skid Row situated in East Hollywood which reunites
two 'rival' streetgangs through song and dance.
BoB Giraldi is the director and all is choreographed
by MJ and Michael Peters, who also appears in the video
alongside 25 dancers and 50 'actual' gang members.
The costs mount up to about 150.000 $.
"Beat it" also certified GOLD.

"Beat it" wins in 5 categories in
the Billboard Music Video Awards which was held in
Pasadena, California.

In May of the 1983,
~ " Wanna be startin' Somethin' " ~
sees the light of day and enters the Black Singles Charts at
N° 5 where it swings for the next 17 weeks.
It also pops into the POP Singles Chart and hangs
around for 15 weeks there.

The next single is "Human Nature / Baby be mine " that
pops into the Pop Singles Charts at N° 7 and
stays there for 14 weeks.

At the point of 12 Million sales in late September 1983,
Thriller is certified PLATINIUM in 15 countries
(South Africa, US, Canada, UK, Holland, Australia, Japan, Belgium,
Swiss, Spain, Greece,Germany, France and Sweden,
GOLD in 3 countries ( Denmark, Italy and Israël)
and SILVER in Norway.
It holds 37 Awards and reached N° 1 in 8 countries.

As the year slips in October already,
~ "P.Y.T " ~ enters the POP Singles Charts at N° 10 and
stays there 16 weeks.

As December wraps up this 'glorious' year,
"Thriller" - a 14 minute shortfilm - debuts on MTV.
The production costs showed a bill for $ 800.000 with
18 dancers and once again co-choreographed by
Michael Peters.

The year 1984 hits off wonderfully with
the American Music Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium
in Los Angeles. MJ attends it with Brooke Shields by his side.
At the tender age of 25, he's is the 'youngest'
'RECIPIENT OF THE SPECIAL AWARD OF MERIT'

That night MJ came home with these awards to shelf:

In February of 1984
~ " Thriller" ~ debuts at N° 20 of the POP Singles Charts and
peaks at N° 4 where it creeps for another 14 weeks.
It also enters the Black Singles Charts at N° 3 and
rests there for 14 weeks too.

February holds more in store for MJ as he wins
the MOST Grammy's in ONE night,
a stunning 8 Grammy's.
He attends the event with Brooke Shields and
Emmanuel Lewis.
He's nominated in 10 categories and wins:

So the HIStory 'ends' here on April 1984 with
Thriller breaking EVERY record with clasping the
N° 1 spot for over 37 weeks surpassing
the previous record by H. Bellafonte's 'Calypso' and
Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours".

Michael Jackson becomes the FIRST artist of the 80's
to hold TWO chart positions in Billboard TOP 5 with
"Billie Jean" and "Beat it".
MJ is also the 1st artist to reach
the TOP of the Black Singles Chart in ONLY 3 weeks since
he and his bro's achieved that success back in the 70's with
ABC/ The love you save and I'll be there.

Michael's dream had come true and everyone bejubeled him.
