who is considered a Legend and you could care less about them and what is the main reason??

Elvis Presley: main reason being that his work was not his and he never really grew as an artist, just remained a mediocre entertainer.

...

I like his name though :p

Right bach atya girl. Elvis Presley is obsolete. I never liked him, respected him, or listened to any of his music. The music he played wasn't his own and that's the cut and dry of it. Kids in their teens and their 20's still listen to alot of artists from the 60's and the Beatles. But no one under 20, let alone under 40 probably listens to him.

I never understood all the fuss over a fat drug addict, b/c that's all he was in the end.

I've never figured out what the big deal is about the Grateful Dead, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, R. Kelly, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, & Neil Young.

be careful there, that's what the media and people in general would like you to remember elvis as. (they love the fall from grace story)

every legend i have respect for.... even though i may not like their music they helped inspire people who i like, so for me not to like them wouldn't make sense, imo anyway.

All people who are legends, are legends for a reason even if you don't like them or don't take any notice of them. Sometimes the persona of that legend and the time they appeared on the music scene is what makes them legendary as apposed to their music and artistic growth etc.

Elvis Presley, yes the man didn't wrote his own songs (many stars pre Beatles didn't write they own songs), many were cover versions and he never grew artistically. But Elvis has one of the most distinctive and greatest vocalists in music. He was also an amazing live performer and had amazing stage and camera presence. He also had the first real Iconic image in pop music. Of all the 1950's Rock'N'Roll stars I rate Elvis the highest by far, so what if a lot of his songs were cover versions as they were better than the originals. My view is that Elvis is a legend because he popularized black music and performance in a racist era, his sense of style and also his vocals.

I hate Madonna, she's not the artists she, her fans and the media say she is. But she is a legend, because she changed the way women in music are viewed. Giving women artists the right to be sexually powerful both in music and performance. She is also the first women to have the most control over her music and image in a sexist industry. Her dedication to her career and getting the sounds she wants from co-song writers and producers to create that distinct Madonna sound is something I respect no matter how much I dislike her music and persona.

Madonna, her vocals are not good enough to be the icon she is today. I actually don't think she can sing at all and her dancing is ok, but not something that makes her stand out of the crowd. She just knows how to sell herself, that's why she's still the Queen Of Pop today. She's aware of the musical TRENDS, that's why her music is not timeless.

She knows how to controll the commercial aspect of the music industry and that's the only reasson why she's still on ''top''.

You have made some vaild points about Madonna, but being a brilliant vocalist has nothing to do with being a pop music icon. Being an icon is about a combination of things, and Madonna's vocals are good just not brilliant and she's not known for being a brilliant vocalist.

Elvis & Madonna.

They're both fantastic entertainers, but give me a break...

EDIT: Oh, and Prince. :bugeyed

I agree somewhat on Elvis, although I like a few songs.
But what I really have never understood the was the appeal of Johnny Cash.

Elvis is practically the only legend that I absolutely hate. My oldest aunt always had a love for him. Her sister my mother also likes him but she doesn't have any of his albums. But will watch him whenever they show him on tv. I can't figure out what was so great about him. When to me he couldn't dance or sing. I don't even know why he is even called a legend.

I can't stand it when people give such harsh opinions on people they know nothing about, not to mention state facts that are untrue. Straight up ignorance...

I disagree cause I don't personally HATE these people. I just don't think they deserve the position they are at. Simple as that.

i didnt mention the u2 because i didnt know they were considered legends in the first place lol

No one, I respect everyone and I'm tolerant towards every artist, band, all kinds of music.

Shame that MJ fans tend to be the most judgemental and prejudiced people sometimes.

Sad but true. I don't have any hate for any artist but I certainly don't "get" all of them.

if that is true, it's the law of the pendulum. because MJ has been the most untolerated and judged artist in history. so it's understandable that MJ fans have many sore spots that need healing.

This "us against the world" attitude is something I find totally disturbing. It's one of the reasons I'm not much active in the fan community. I am very interested in MJ as an artist and in his music, and I don't believe he'd appreciate his fans talking like that about other artists. I am sure he has respect for other artists. I don't like every band or singer or artist or type of music or song, still I don't go around bashing them. I think it's childish.

And I disagree about MJ being underrated or untolerated. In fact, he has always been recognised as a big star, a legend, even by many critics. You cannot blame the public that they have got a weird picture of that man in recent years that over shadowed his music and art. But if you look at the way his concerts are selling out, I think it's pretty clear that MJ is not underrated, in fact, people were just waiting for him to come back.

I think a little more tolerance towards other artists wouldn't hurt. There isn't only MJ in this world.

Thank you. This is SO very true.
We are not going all "Us Against The World" but for a long time it WAS "Michael Against Everyone Else".
