if they want they can attend the hearings however there is no requirement for them to be there.

I fully expect this judge to allow the cameras.
 
The Estate is wise. I don't think they are going to take any part or sides in this Trial
I don't think they will touch it with a ten foot pole.. I would be very suprized if they did.

Jury selection in the Los Angeles Superior Court was delayed for a few hours over a legal argument about television coverage of the proceedings.

Broadcasters CNN pressed judge Palazuelos to allow live coverage, noting that it was granted for the Murray trial two years ago. Their lawyers pressed her again Tuesday, after she denied a CNN request on March 7.

"We want the truth to get out," said Panish.

But a lawyer for the Jackson Estate, Patricia Millett, voiced concern over what would be revealed in open court, saying: "There is no public right of access to Michael Jackson's confidential medical records."

The judge did not immediately rule on the live TV coverage issue.

A judge Tuesday took under submission a request by attorneys for CNN and NBC to reconsider her denial of live television trial coverage of a $40 billion negligent-hiring lawsuit against the promoters of Michael Jackson's never-realized London concerts.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos also was urged by attorneys for the defendants, AEG Live, to consider issuing a gag order preventing the lawyers on both sides from commenting to the media during the trial.

On March 7, without any briefings or arguments, the judge denied a CNN request for gavel-to-gavel broadcasting of the trial proceedings.

The entertainer was set to perform a string of 50 shows in London, but he died on June 25, 2009, at age 50, of acute propofol intoxication at a Holmby Hills estate just north of Westwood and Century City. He was renting the estate while rehearsing for the sold-out concert series.

Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, sued AEG Live in September 2010 on behalf of herself and her son's three children, Michael Jr., Paris-Michael Katherine and Prince Michael, claiming that the company was liable for hiring Dr. Conrad Murray to be the pop star's personal physician. Murray administered propofol to Jackson.

"The trial undoubtedly will be the subject of substantial media coverage, whether or not it is televised," the networks' attorneys say in their court papers. "Michael Jackson undoubtedly was one of the most famous entertainers (who) ever lived. His sudden death on June 25, 2009, sent shock waves around the world, with intense public interest in understanding what caused his untimely demise."

The attorneys further state in their court documents that Murray's criminal trial was broadcast worldwide and watched by millions of people. Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death and sentenced in November 2011 to four years in the Los Angeles County jail.

Attorney Kelli Sager, on behalf of the networks, said AEG Live attorney Marvin Putnam claims on the one hand that the television coverage could interfere with his clients' right to a fair trial. Yet, Putnam gave an interview recently to CNN about the case, Sager said.

"They want to control the way the information is given out, and that doesn't serve the justice system,'' Sager said. "It's like the man who kills his parents and then asks for mercy because he's now an orphan."

Allowing cameras in the courtroom will give the public a more balanced understanding of the proceedings, according to Sager. She said that without cameras, second-hand accounts and opinions would dominate. However, with cameras, members of the public can see for themselves what transpires in the courtroom, she said.

Sager said Tuesday's cameras are relatively small and do not require wires or lighting.

But Putnam replied there are no constitutional grounds to support the position that the media be allowed to televise a trial.

"Let's be very clear, there's no such right here," Putnam said.

Putnam also said print journalists are just as able to present an accurate presentation of the trial.

"The written-word journalist is more than capable of conveying what happens in this courtroom as the broadcast journalist," Putnam said.

Putnam said after the hearing that he raised the issue of a possible gag order to give the judge another option.

Attorney Brian Panish, on behalf of the Jacksons, said he supported the presence of cameras. He criticized Putnam and AEG Live for opposing their presence.

"Why are they afraid to see the real evidence in this case?," Panish asked.

But attorney Patricia Millett, on behalf of the estate of Michael Jackson, said she also was against televising the trial if it meant confidential medical records of the singer could be made public. However, Palazuelos said some of that information was released during Murray's criminal trial.

The initial steps of jury selection also are scheduled today as prospective panel members are brought into the courtroom to determine their ability to serve on a trial estimated to last two to three months.

Could being a Michael Jackson fan disqualify a person from serving on the jury of the singer's wrongful death trial? Or maybe increase the chances of being picked for the jury?

Jury selection began Tuesday in the wrongful death trial over the demise of pop icon Michael Jackson, and it appears that one matter is of particular interest: Are the potential jurors fans of the "Thriller" singer?

A 29-page juror questionnaire, which has been obtained by TheWrap, reveals a multitude of questions being asked of potential jurors, with a number of them targeted at their opinions of the deceased King of Pop.

"How often do you listen to Michael Jackson's music, if at all?" one question -- out of a total of 123 -- asks. The choices range from "everyday" to "never."

"Would you consider yourself a fan of Michael Jackson?" another question asks.

If attorneys are hoping to eliminate Michael Jackson fans from the juror selection, they could end up with a pretty shallow juror pool -- after all, Jackson was known to have sold more than a few records in his lifetime.

Potential jurors are also being quizzed on their opinion of Jackson as both a performer and as a person (answers range from "very favorable" or "very unfavorable"), and whether they've watched the "This Is It" documentary film, which chronicled the preparation for what would have been Jackson's final tour prior to his 2009 death.

Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, is suing promoter AEG Live, claiming that AEG was responsible for hiring Dr. Conrad Murray to care for Jackson. The elder Jackson -- and the singer's children, Paris, Prince and Blanket -- are reportedly seeking $40 billion in the lawsuit.

AEG has denied that it hired Murray.

Murray was convicted of manslaughter in 2011 for administering a fatal dose of Propofol to the singer.

Jurors are also being asked if they have any knowledge of the child-molestation accusations previously brought against Jackson.

Among the other notable questions being asked of the potential jurors at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday: "Have you, or anyone close to you, ever declared bankruptcy?" (Prior to booking the string of concerts at London's O2 Arena through AEG, Jackson was reportedly broke.)

And, "Do you in general have any negative feelings about celebrities or high-profile people?"

Counsel also seems eager to weed out any budding Harvey Levins from the juror pool; yet another question asks, "Have you, or anyone close to you, every worked in the news media (television, newspapers, internet, radio, etc.) or entertainment media (Extra, TMZ, people magazine, etc.)?"

The lawsuit filed by Michael Jackson&#8217;s mother and children blaming entertainment giant AEG for the singer&#8217;s death is expected to take more than four months to try, the judge said Tuesday.

The length of the trial was the court&#8217;s first concern as jury selection began Tuesday in a downtown courtroom where Jackson&#8217;s towering legacy will be pitted against a business enterprise that has had a profound influence on the entertainment scene in Los Angeles.

Thirty-five potential jurors were brought into Judge Yvette M. Palazuelos' courtroom and given a questionnaire to fill out to see who could take that much time from their personal and work lives. A second panel of 35 was scheduled to be given the same questionnaire in the afternoon.

Groups of jurors will continue to be brought in each day until a pool of 80 to 100 people has been chosen. From that group, attorneys will selected 12 jurors and five alternates who will decide the case.

Attorneys estimate that jury selection alone could take two to three weeks.

More than 60 news organizations from countries including Japan, France Germany and Australia have asked for seats to cover the trial, according to Pat Kelly, a court spokeswoman. There is space for roughly 10 reporters in the courtroom.

On Tuesday morning, Palazuelos heard a motion from CNN asking that the cable network be allowed to broadcast the trial live. The judge has not ruled on the motion.

The suit filed by Katherine Jackson, Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II, alleges that AEG negligently hired and supervised Dr. Conrad Murray, who -- in an attempt to help the singer sleep -- gave him a fatal dose of the anesthetic propofil. They say that AEG pushed Jackson to prepare for a tour that he was not physically up to.

AEG says it was Jackson&#8217;s decision to hire Murray, and that the company recommended a British doctor.

Jackson died in 2009, two weeks before his "This Is It" tour was scheduled to debut in London.

Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011.

I don't understand why the Jackson side are so keen on the cameras being there, whatever the evidence we will hear about it, are they hoping public opinion will swing the verdict by seeing KJ and maybe the children, the human element?

This is all such a circus, I'm kind of lost for words this evening. smh

I agree with that. But apparently the prosecutors (with the family's permission...which was baffling) during the Murray trial thought the public had a right to view MJ's deceased body laying on a gurney.
 
The family wants the trial televised, because they think they will show a lot of truth about Michael's condition and AEG's actions and responsibility. We have 90 days for 1 allegation, so if the original allegations were kept, how long would the trial be? This will be a case of experts vs experts.
 
IMO the family wants the trial televised so they can play to the media and make it hard for AEG to fight back against the plaintiffs--2 young kids and an 82 yr old grandmother--all grieving.

Can you post where it was said the family gave permission for that?

cameras creates more attention, more publicity and more money for interviews. and cnn get something back for supporting the family ie more attenion and ratings for when they show salacious moments on their channel.

I hope judge will grant this that either side is ordered to keep their mouths shut.

Putnam is incorrect here, 2005 trial is prime example what print journalists present to the public.
If denying cameras in the court room means that Michael's medical records stays under the wraps, I hope judge deny them.

That is the reason. They want to show that big bad AEG killed son and father of these grieving people.

Just that one lone voice.... so sad, I can't stop crying today, got woken up by conrad murray singing to me and now just a feeling of sadness, this whole circus is messing with my head, and it is a circus, so many people wadding in, the fan community split, my total lack of understanding other fans wanting cameras and accepting that dragging Michael is a means to an end, and just this feeling that nobody, NOBODY is on Michael's side. If it was more than just negligent hiring I don't think I would feel so bad, you know, if I could see some clearer grey areas. Everyone is just in this for themselves, vying for position and greed.

I'm sorry, please just ignore me, I just needed to vent a little.
 
2nd day of jury selection.

I don't expect much different news today. 35 person panel will come in the morning and in the afternoon. (70 total). They would be asked if they can serve for 90 days. If they say no and explain their reasoning, they will be excused. The rest will fill the questionnaires.

They will continue doing this until they have a good number people that they can select the jury from.

Final tally off the day: 72 jurors filled out the questionnaire, 280 jurors have been excused for hardship, 360 jurors screened so far.
 
^April 15th, so it seems this trial will begin at the end of April. It seems many are not able to commit to this 90 day trial.
 
I was hoping this thing will end by June 25, but now I do not think so. What a shame. I hope at least it is over by August.
 
Actually I did a little estimate

voir dire - the phase to select final 12 jurors + 5 alternates - is Monday April 15. If we say they finalize it in a day or two and the judge gives the jurors a few days to get their life in order, we can expect the trial to start by April 22. If we count 90 business days for trial that would bring us to August 23.
