Los Angeles (CNN) -- Katherine Jackson doesn't celebrate Mother's Day or birthdays for religious reasons.

But Michael Jackson's mother, who turns 81 next Wednesday, does believe in the tradition of sending flowers to someone you care about.

"It means love, 'I was thinking about you today, so I'm sending you these flowers,'" Jackson said. "Sometimes when you might be feeling down and you get some flowers, it perks you up."

Jackson, who rarely gives interviews, spoke to CNN about the Katherine Jackson Flower Collection, which launches Tuesday on SendHerFlowers.com, just in time for Mother's Day.

"Flowers make me feel happy," she said.

While Jackson was eager to talk about flowers -- her favorites are red and yellow roses -- she was reluctant to speak on the record about what has made her feel sad lately.

Perhaps she would have the strength later to talk about her differences with the men who now control her late son's estate or the upcoming trial of the doctor charged in his death, but not yet, Jackson said.

She dreads sitting in court for Dr. Conrad Murray's involuntary manslaughter trial, which is set to last two months starting May 9, she said.

But she will be there, listening to testimony about how Michael Jackson died. The judge has already ruled that prosecutors can show photographs from his autopsy.
"A mother's job is never done," Jackson said.

With the camera turned off, her frustration with the news media's coverage of Michael Jackson's life and death and of her family emerged.

For example, Katherine and Joe Jackson have sometimes been described as estranged. But after 61 years of marriage, they are still a couple in love, she said.

Her husband spends most of his time at the Las Vegas home given to them by daughter Janet Jackson, but it's not unusual for her to drive across the desert to spend a few days with her husband.

Joe Jackson often travels to Los Angeles to stay with his wife.

They sit together in court, sometimes holding hands.
She recently moved from the Encino mansion that was the Jackson family home for four decades and into a newly-built mansion on a hilltop in Calabasas. Although the Hayvenhurst home is being remodeled, she hinted that she's not moving back.

With the camera turned back on, Jackson, who raised nine children and is now caring for Michael Jackson's three children, shared advice about motherhood.
She called it "the most important thing in the world."

"One thing about mothers, they have to really be there for their children when they need her," she said. "They should be there at all times and know where your children are at all times. You must make your 'yes' mean 'yes' and let your 'no' mean 'no.' That's really the way to bring your children up."

It's the mother who holds the family together, she said.
"Yes, she's the glue that keeps the family going," Jackson said.

What the hell does she mean she is not moving back? the house was paid off for her. Another way of conning the execs?

How tacky of her to be talking about selling flowers for May 8th....the day before the trial.

Oh Greedy old Katherine....How low will you go?

Since Howard Mann is behind all this, I hope you all know what to do.

Was this latest flower venture the reason behind HTW settlement? A trial could have turn more & more fans against Mann and might have tainted other ventures.

I have just checked that site SendHerFlowers.com and I couldn't find a single mention of Katherine or her collection anywhere. Strange.

As for the house, perhaps the reporter didn't get the hint? Or perhaps the Estate has other plans for the house, like a Michael Jackson museum?.... Anyway, I think we'll find out soon, I don't think Katherine and the kids will be staying in a rented house for a long time when they have a house of their own.

upd. oh, silly me, it's still early in the USA, I guess her collection launches later.

Why would a reporter misunderstand that. She hinted she will not go back to the house. What's to misinterpret? And she said these things Off camera for a reason.

I really dont know what to make out of katherine anymore...the estate is not going to let her stay in a rental home when the other home is already paid for....they wont let her waste money like that. She needs to understand...the estateis suppose to make money and save money...NOT waste it on some old rental house. I think it is sad that the flower sight will launch on May 8th....hopefully that is just coincidence..I think Katherine turning 81 is a good thing that means she is healthy physically...its the mental part that I worry about.

The estate owns the house so they could sell it if she and the kids like where they are staying now. The flower thing is a little odd.

Really interesting interview. If she and the kids are not going back I hope the estate can turn that to a museum.
I think I've heard that MJ always want to build a museum and it would be good to be Encino.

As for the flower thing, I really hope it's not another Howard Mann related project. I am suspicious to all these now.

I think Katherine Jackson will not move back to
Havenhurst, because I believe Michael's children:
Prince, Paris, and Blanket prefer their new home in
Calabasas.
It has allowed them to be in a home that
is just for them, which is a very good thing.

Re: Katherine Jackson is selling flowers now

That is good. Flowers does make some people happy including me.

Re: Katherine Jackson is selling flowers now

This makes me sad to read. I feel the pain of losing Michael every day and I had never met him. So I can only imagine how Katherine feels.

I miss you Michael, and I'm crying again...all this hurts so much..all the time...please guide her to do the right thing for your legacy, and for the children...I'll keep praying...

I have just checked the sendherflowers.com and Katherine's collection is on there.

Is the flower thing another mann project? I dont get the continued obsession with her trying to make money.well i do but if u were an outsider looking in it just looks oh so tacky that even his own mother is trying to cash in

It's really beyond me how she says her and Joe are "still a couple in love"?!?! When Joe is out there posing and openly flirting with young women (and more than likely cheating on her all the time)..... and she says they are still in love. Does she realize how this makes her look?

Either she really believes that which would be mind boggling or she just says it to paint, yet again, the family as some "united, loving, perfect" family, which would be dumb since nobody's buying that anymore, even the general public.

Oh my...now "Katherine Jackson" is her own brand. This stuff is just getting hilarious.

Nice interview :) Motherhood is the most beautiful thing in the world imo, I would love to have children of my own some day :)

Well, if there not moving back at least make it a Jackson museum! That's to many memories to just let it go like that! I would want to live there so I can be close to MJ since he lived there as a child up to almost 30!

The whole flowers things is weird...according to Pearl Jr. on her youtube channel bulletin she says: "Raymone Bain is BAAACCCCKK! She just sent out a press release stating that Katherine Jackson and Howard Mann have NOT severed ties."

I think there good friends Pearl Jr. and Raymone?! Pearl was invited by Raymone twice to appear on her radio show not to long ago! Also Raymone was part of that whole HTWF issue so I think she would know, right?! If true not surprise and it would explain perhaps this whole flower thingy! SMH

If Katherine and PPB have moved out of Hayvennhurst and it's being remodeled, and 'hints' she won't be moving back, what about the rest of the horde living there?

Dont tell me bain is now working for mann/katherine? This is getting ridiculous

to be honest..does this really surprise anyone about Raymone?? Of course not....NOTHINGGGG surprises me anymore. NONE of them have ANY shame..
