"Am I the Only One?"
Have you ever wondered, “Am I the only one who … ?” Joined by Emmy-award winning comedy writer Teresa Strasser, Dr. Phil answers guest’s questions. LaTisha worries about her daughter’s obsession with Michael Jackson. Since the pop star’s death, her 9-year-old has developed her first crush, but is it getting out of control? Then, Tyler wants to know if he’s the only guy who acts like a girl when dating. Find out what he means and why he’s scaring away his dates! And, Andrea says she has a low tolerance for background noise: sniffles, dogs barking, birds chirping, gum chewing, ceiling fans and more. Why is she so sensitive to sounds? Plus, meet a woman wants to know if she’s the only wedding planner who can’t seem to get down the aisle, and a mom who says she’s so embarrassed of her son’s predicament, she can’t talk about him with anyone. Are they the only people with these unique issues? Are they fucking serious?

No, don't be stupid she can't have a crush on Michael Jackson, that's just WRONG!

She should have a crush on Brad Pitt or someone like that...-_-

Better yet, she should look up the fools who sing about banging prostitutes and shooting high. How dare a 9 year old girl sing along to "Heal the World"?! How inappropriate.

She should be listening to Eminem and Lil' Wayne. She should sing along to "Cleanin' out my closet". NOT "Can You Feel It" Instead of singing "All the children all the world should be loving each other wholeheartedly" she would be yelling out the lyrics: "you stupid b*tch, I hope you f*ckin' burn in hell for this sh*t!". I guess that's what her mother wants

UNIQUE issues??!! A 9-year old having a crush on Michael Jackson is unique? :hysterical: I don't think the rest of the 'issues' are too unique either. Of course that's just an over-the-top blurp for the program, but still...

This is some stupid crap, that lady should let her lil girl crush on MJ anytime she wants. Mom is prob scared because she prob believe that MJ is not a great role model due to tabs.

See kids can see and think for themselves more than some grown folk.

This reminds of an episode of Dr Phil I watched the other day.

Mad for Joel Madden

I do agree she clearly has an obsession, but I think every girl (and nowadays boys too) goes through the same one way or another, whether the target of their admiration is a real person or a cartoon character.

She admitted she would like to take her admiration down a level and change it from unhealthy to healthy, which sounded good to me, but it got me a bit sad when Dr Phil said "You need to take all those pictures down in your room" like there's no other options but forgetting him completely and she can't be a fan of him anymore.

I think if my child was "obsessed" with any celebrity or figure I would be concerned. I wouldn't take them on "Dr" Phil but I would keep an eye on them. I know how close I felt to Michael as an 11 year old and as a 13 year old when the accusations hit. If I wasn't as thick skinned I could have been absolutely devestated... a child of 9 might not handle terrible backlash from others well if others choose to talk bad about Michael or they might feel very frustrated/upset/confused by what they are confronted with.

Obviously I haven't seen the episode but I REALLY HOPE it's about the mother wanting to protect her daughter's young self esteem and to give her ways of handling admiration but not letting it overwhelm her emotional well being.

*Gasp* Oh my god! How on earth can a 9 year old girl have a crush on Michael Jackson? Michael Jackson is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to ugly for her to have a crush on. She should be liking people like Johnny Depp (Sarcasam)

Lol at this. Lets just wait and see what it's all about I guess. If ANYONE starts saying that she shouldn't be into Michael because he did the shit that he DIDN'T I will hit the roof.

While on the subject of Dr. Phil, I came across this:

Dr Phil's response to MJ's death...
http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt...rom=&vid=2acdb5d6-2e24-4d39-8e9c-8502510e257e

He was actually pretty respectful  He said that MJ lived up the road from him, and that he knew Michael had really spent these last few years trying to get his life and his career back on track. He also advised the family to keep Michael's children away from the media because the increased attention, in addition to the sudden change in circumstances, could be damaging to a grieving child. He asked the media to give them their space and to respect their privacy. So I don't know what to expect from this show

I'm still just trying to figure out why a mother would send her child to Dr. Phil over something this ridiculous! How is it abnormal for a 9 year old to develop a crush on a celebrity? When I was her age I was totally in LOVE with Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys *hides* I would have died of embarrassment if my mother ever sent me to a psychiatrist over it! I just don't see why this poor child can't have a crush without it being analysed by a doctor and then plastered all over national television! The poor baby.

Michael is F.I.N.E. what's wrong with having a crush on him? ;) Plus he is a good role model. Unlike a lot of celebrities these days.

I don't quite understand why a mother would bring her child to the Dr. Phil show.....other than wanting attention.

Lots of children obsess over celebrities. I agree it can be somewhat unhealthy when it gets to the point where someone is 'saving themselves' for a celebrity instead of finding a sweet boyfriend/girlfriend and living their own life.......but for goodness sake. Michael became even more iconic after he passed away, so give this child a break. She's just discovering a legend.

This lady should be glad her child is looking up to someone with such a good heart, great care about the world and an amazing example for anyone when it comes to good manners, inspiration and life lessons instead of obsessing over rappers who talk about guns, murder, racism, sex and have no respect for women.

I guess I better bring my 6 year old niece to the show because she has a big thing for Michael as well:rofl: hell when I was a kid I had the biggest crush on him!

I think it's cute, she's a little kid my goodness
we all had our crushes at that age, besides Michael's music appeals to the youngins all of the time. Michael has a kind heart and he is magical, the children can always see the magic in Michael so she should be happy.

This isn't a weird thing, I have talked to MJ fans 12 and under online and some said that their parents wouldn't not allow them to listen to Michael because of the Tab myths in which the kids don't believe that the parents do. One little girl said that her parents took her offline because her parents believed that Michael shouldn't be worshiped of glorified because they think he was a pedo and weird, I didn't see her for a month. :(

I wonder if I am the only one who finds this a bit funny :) At the same time when this mom is worried about her daughter's obsession for Michael Jackson other mom's keeps buying products such as Spongebob, Bob the Builder, Hannah Montana, Teletubbies and the list goes on to their kids and they are sort of developing an obsession for these characters or am I again the only one who has seen kids screaming their lungs out at the store when the b'day present has to be that certain character from the Star Trek and not the old-fashioned teddy bear.

I wonder if I am the only one who finds this a bit funny :)

If I didn't think it was going to generate a rude comment or generate some laughter at MJ's expense, I'd be doing a big ahhhhhhhhh! That's precious and that 9 y.o. has exceptional taste. But I've got a feeling, it's going to provoke me to throw a shoe at the television instead.

Just the same, I'll check it out...with my fingers crossed.

Is it weird that my MJ obsession/crush started at 5 years old?

Oh, and I'm 38 years old and still crushing, so why ain't anybody calling my azz for an interview?

UNIQUE issues??!! A 9-year old having a crush on Michael Jackson is unique? :hysterical: I don't think the rest of the 'issues' are too unique either. Of course that's just an over-the-top blurp for the program, but still...

i honsetly think this girls mother she should be glad he at least as an interest on somethin other than boys!!!!

Now thats another thing altogether!!

I don't believe there's going to be any rude comments or misbehaviour towards Michael, but knowing how Dr. Phil reacted to this obsession 16 year old teenage girl had for Joel Madden (in case someone has not seen it, I linked it earlier in one of my posts in this thread) it probably will not be anything nice either. I bet his only advice -again- is going to be to remove all the posters from the walls and get rid of all the cd's and stuff

First of all, Dude, Crushing on Michael? Thats like the best thing ever. Got me through the first 5 years of my life... for real though, hell, I had a crush on him since i was 5 when I first watched his "BAD" Music vid. So I guess I should go to Dr. Phill cuz I'm still crushin' on Mike. May be we should all go the whole MJJC...

This is like the funniest story since the balloon boy incident.

Thanks for making me laugh...:D

And Is it Friday as in Yesterday Friday or Next week Friday?

That's a normal for a 16 year old girl to crush on celebs, why did they find it odd?

why does the media try so hard to dissuade Michael Jackson fans from being Michael Jackson fans? Dr. Phil says that the nine year old's obsession is out of control?

How do you control a person's love for music?

Why is it a bad thing for a person to hear a message that says Heal The World?

Dr Phil knows his nutters! The mother is gonna offered some therapy, and the girl is applauded for being normal and experiencing her first crush, bless her little heart.
Mommy got way more problems the way I see it! She's frustrated, probably and jealous of her daughter's crush, youth and endless possibilties still ahead of her, while mommy is trying to recoup from some pretty bad experiences in her own life.

Trust me on this, I watch Dr Phil often, nothing to worry about! ( haven't read page 2 of the comments yet)
