hovedstaden: Have you found any hidden gems in MJs archive yet?
michaelprincemd: Yes.......

This means that there are songs that we may have never even heard of (like I'm So Blue or Abortion Papers). It also means that Damien Shields may have been right when he said a team combed through several hard drives looking for undiscovered/overlooked material. Either way...

I hope that is true

I hope that is true

Hopefully some news soon. I feel like a little kid waiting for Xmass morning. They must have found some more songs. MJ was pretty sneaky when recording who knows what's really out there. He knew he wanted a strong legacy when he left this world. Love lives forever. Let's have some new songs for summer. That is my dream!

Its my dream too :)

I really do hope its new music that we have never ever heard before

Bruce and the others are too old. It'll sound too old. The world wil ignore it.
They need to add a modern feel for radio to play it and for people to want to buy it.

No they don't need to add a ''modern'' feel to it. I don't want Michael's music being crap, shallow and melodic-less like 95% of today's mainstream music. I don't want any ''hip'', young music maker coming anywhere near Michael's music

Knew it! No one truly knows what they've got. I don't even think they know what they've got! It can't be too far away now!

I really hope it's true they have found some (hopefully many many many!) songs they didn't knew about!

Hope to hear some official news soon!

I really hope MJ recorded 100's of songs and finished them so they are ready to be released!

I wonder where they got these hard drives from. I don't believe we've heard 1/3 of the songs Michael recorded. Since his death we've heard a bunch of songs including unknown titles, full songs and snippets like:

Blue Gangsta
A Place With No Name*
Hollywood Tonight*
Best Of Joy*
Much Too Soon
Behind The Mask
Another Day
People Of The World
Slave To The Rhythm*
This Is It*
Planet Earth
Free*
I'm So Blue*
Al Capone
The Price of Fame
Song Groove (Abortion Papers)*
(Summers) Days in Gloucestershire*
I Am/Was A Loser*
Can't Get Your Weight Off Me.
* = Songs I never heard the title before Michaels death.

I'm sure I'm missing some and this doesn't include all the demos and songs that leaked or were released when Michael was alive on different Compilations/ Best of albums, Box-Sets and Special Editions. Excluding these formats, Off The Wall- Invincible Michael released or was featured on roughly 90 songs. I'm sure there's tons of alternative takes in the vaults too. I think the estate should take time to just search high and low for these things, register and secure them. The news from Michael Prince is beyond exciting, I just want it to be done right this time!

That's fine, you're entitled to your opinion (I see many people agree with you).
Having seen recent interviews with Bruce I think he is too old these days to do a world class job. If he was still as capable as he was 30 years ago, it wouldn't be a problem, but he isn't. Old age gets to everyone in the end and there's no doubt that Bruce's hearing will have been affected, and his mind will have got slower too. Technology has also moved on massively in the last 30 years and I can guarantee he isn't as aware as he should be how a modern studio works, even if it is only being used to polish 30 year old MJ tunes. Putting issues of how modern the music style should be aside, Bruce will be less capable then a younger person. Simple. Sure, it's good for the music's authenticity to have him involved but that's not going to sell to the masses. The finished product won't be as good as it could have been purely down to age.

Personally I would love for MJ to have a new hit single and album. I have been waiting for that since 2001 (some would argue even YRMW wasn't a true 'hit') and I haven't given up hope yet. But the only chance of that happening is if the estate release something that gets young audiences interested and can impact mainstream radio. In this era, the video will have to be a big deal too as online hits are becoming more and more important.
MJ achieved so much in his heyday, but it would be good to see something big happen in 2013 wouldn't it?

Take this to gearslutz and see what kind of reactions you get.

Hey michael & bruce are pretty much around the same age so if michael can sing & dance great in this is it at the age of 50 (despite everything that was goin on ) i reckon bruce can do the same with engineering

George Martin is 87 years old. In 2006 when he did the Beatles' LOVE remix album he was 80. He did alright. I know he's a producer and Bruce is a sound engineer, but we are talking about whether those old masters are capeble of staying in touch. Unless you have info on Bruce's health, hearing etc. - it's useless to write him off like that.

Maybe we should all stop obsessing about the charts and mainstream impact. Yes, I'd be happy to see MJ high on the charts again, I think all of us would, but if it comes at a price of butchering his music then no, thank you. I'd rather listen to authentic MJ music than someone else's vision of his music. And you cannot force a hit. The mainstream media and public will pick up on MJ again, whenever they want to. That depends on many factors (for example the general mood of the public), not just the music. Until then I will be happy to see Thriller or Essential charting (like they did in the past few weeks - with Thriller being the #99 best selling album of the year to date, which is pretty good from a 31 year-old album). MJ has nothing to prove any more, his legacy is strong.

no they're not...

no they're not...

He is 78 years old. He was Michaels sound engineer for 20 plus years. I think he will do just find. Like someone said before he is not producing he is a sound engineer. The Estate has done there homework I'm sure. No worries here just want the tracks.

I think it will be the best album after The Ultimate Collection.
I sure they will do a great job on these songs, they are the masters, and this album will sound great with Bruce on the board.

Smooth72, I meant they're not "around the same age". I agree Bruce fits for the work, he probably knows Michael's vision more than anyone else for that matter cause he's the only one who worked with Michael on ALL of his albums. I think his age is irrelevant as a sound engineer, I wrote it too few posts ago. So we're on 100% agreement on this.

Ohh i must have got bruce mixed up with someone else

No worries. There is so much info out there it's easy to confuse people. I knew some things about him but google told me the rest. Hopefully we will get something most everyone can enjoy. I feel happy we will get something new. Our MJ was a workaholic and that is fortunate for us that we will get gifts like these new releases. Imagine if there was nothing for release that would be painful. The estate will pick and choose what to release a little bit at a time to stretch things out. I'm just grateful it give us something to look Forward to during the difficult time that will be coming with the trail. Have a nice day all!

Bruce Swedien records tribute to Michael Jackson called "Timeless"

MJJC thread: "Timeless" - a beautiful tribute to Michael Jackson recorded by Bruce Swedien at West Viking Studio

IMO it is VERY unlikely that Bruce Swedien would work on any MJ songs right now. The Estate was well aware of his work on "Much Too Soon", yet John McClain took over (new) production on it, replacing all of Bruce Swedien's original work from 1994 and also re-worked "Behind The Mask". Both released songs have moved far away from their original production. It seems like they don't acknowledge Bruce Swedien's work or that there are personal discrepancies. Whatever.
IMO The Estate wants full control and being able to dictate what direction the production should go. Bruce would not be the right choice to toe their party line.

Links did not work for me. Was it not confirmed by the fellas on instagram or whatever it's called Bruce was in house working with them?

@Smooth72: Fixed the links (please don't quote broken links). Nope, there's only wild speculation from fans, no confirmation of anything (the pure fact that they met each other caused all this).

(the pure fact that they met each other caused all this).

That's simply not accurate!

MD Prince posted on twitter & Instagram something along this: "blessed to work with the best - Bruce Swedien!" & "what more can i say (give)".

And a day earlier he posted something like: "another great day - working @ the core"

He also answered a question on instagram, if he found some rare mj gems on the hard drives with "yes"!

So, there is clearly SOMETHING MJ-related in the works.

I don't say I expect a new album in the near future, but maybe end of year, or next.
What I expect is:
Bad25 Spike BluRay
MJ ONE related project

I was only talking about fan speculation concerning Bruce Swedien's involvement on a project involving songs from MJ.

Yes, MD Prince and Brad Buxer are working on their "secret project" which is most likely related to Cirque's "The One". The fact that they received those hard drives only recently and considering that work on music is often starting just a few months prior to their scheduled usage, it would perfectly fit with Cirque's timeline.
His comment about discovering "hidden gems" doesn't have to indicate unknown songs but rather unknown alternate takes and stuff like that. MD Prince and Brad Buxer have alrady submitted their own work with Michael to the Estate in 2009. ;)
