Today we zap back to the late Seventies
with highlights of the 'debut' at Epic Records,
Michael's first "Movie Experience" in The Wiz and
the release of Michael's first SOLO Album at Epic.
~ October 16 ~
"Enjoy yourself"/ "Style of life" written by Michael and Tito
pops into the Black Singles charts at N° 2 and
remain there for 20 weeks.
This single is the 'debut' single of The Jacksons on CBS.
~ October /December ~
Filming on "The Wiz" begins at the Astoria Studios on location in NY.
Michael will call this 'experience' one of the greatest 'to date'.
At this time Michael, aged 19, joins his father to a meeting with
Ron Alexenburg -CEO of Epic Records-.
Michael convinces the CEO to allow The Jacksons to write and
produce their entire next LP.
Alexenburg agrees and appoints Bobby Colomby and Mike Atkinson
to oversee their work.

"Goin' places" / "Do what you wanna" by The Jacksons released by
Epic hits the Black Singles charts at N° 8 and remains there for 15 weeks.
The single also enters into the Pop singles chart at N° 52.
It remains there only 7 weeks.
~ October 25 ~
The cast of The Wiz holds a party at Studio 54 in
Michael Jackson's Honour.
~ October 29 ~
"Goin' places" (LP) by The Jacksons released on Epic Records,
hits the N° 63 spot on both the US and UK Pop Album charts.
It remains in the charts for 11 weeks.
"Different kind of Lady" and "Do what you wanna" are again
written and produced solely by The Jacksons on "Goin' places".

"The Wiz" (LP) The original Motion Picture soundtrack album feat.
Michael on 3 tracks:
"Ease on down the road"; " A Brandnew day" and "Be a lion".
The Album enters the Black charts at N° 17 and the Pop Album charts at
N° 40. It remains there for 17 weeks.

Michael Jackson visits F.A.O Schwartz in Manhattan, NY.
~ October 25 ~
The movie "The Wiz" premières at the Pitt's century Plaza Theater
in Century City, Los Angeles with tickets selling for $ 150 each.
Michael attends the opening night party.
"The Wiz" is severly slated by many American critics, contributing to
slow ticket sales. Michael, however wins the praise of most critics and
the public alike for his demanding role as "Scarecrow".

The Jacksons' "Destiny" tour begins in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Michael and The Jacksons are the cover story of
"Rock & Soul" Magazine for the 3rd time this year.
"Keep the fire" (LP) by Kenny Loggins which includes
Michael singing harmony vocals on the track
"Who's right, who's wrong" is released on the Columbia Label.

"Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" hits the N° 1 spot
on both the Black and Pop Singles charts.
It remains in the charts for the next 21 weeks.

Michael attends Jane Fonda' s Halloween Disco Party at
the Hollywood Palace.
